Does anyone here train their neck?

Can the neck grow significantly thicker by training it? Or do the neck muscles not grow that big? I have one of those head harnesses for training the back of the neck and for the front neck muscles I lie on a bench on my back with my head hanging over the edge, I hold a plate to my forehead and move my head up and down. Will these kinds of exercises cause any problems or injuries in the future if I keep doing them? I really want to make my neck thicker and stronger because it's really skinny, if someone punched me my head would probably come off.

Your neck muscles will develop fairly fast. I used one of these when I was wrestling in H.S. and my neck muscles developed fast, deadlifts although not directly working my neck, definitely make my neck get thicker.

LMAO!! That really cracked me up for some reason. I don't work my neck but I keep telling myself that I"m gonna start! I think I will soon especially after reading this post.

Whenever I do heavy compound movement and I breath out real hard, I can feel my neck muscles contracting. I have never worked my neck before, but it is very thick from all the exhaling I do during a set.

yes deffinately bridges are awsome for the neck. Most likely it won't cause injury. had a buddy who had to have a vertebre fused who said the doc doesn't recomend neck machines, something about the angles and stress on the neck, but most doc don't much of lifting. But a strong neck isn't bad at all. Hey if someone tries to choke you out its harder if ya have a bigger neck.

I used to religiously, I'm down about half an inch from no training but its still tough to buy dress shirts that fit right.

I'm not a big fan of machines in general but I'm faithful with the four way neck machine at the gym. Also if you lift with a partner or just find another gym rat to give you resistance with a towel or something. I find that works just as well as the machine.

Dead + Shrugs = big neck. I'm 5'8" and my dress shirts are atleast 19" at the neck

The more your whole body grows, the bigger your neck will get.
