What effect does/can the steam room or sauna have on the muscles after a workout? I am in a bulking phase right now, but I enjoy the sauna after a workout. I don't stay in there to sweat my ass off for 20 minutes, but I like to chill for about 10 minutes after a workout. Any negatives?

If you enjoy using the sauna after workouts I'd just use it mate, its not going to make or break your gains, they just help with stress, complexion, moods, just make sure you drink a protein shake after working out and take some water in with you and you'll be fine, the water you lose sitting in there is regained throughout the day anyways bud, I know that steam room to plunge pool(hot to cold) is effective with some fluid in muscles but I couldn't go into any detail maybe someone else might know a little more

I love the sauna to loosen up my muscles. I don't care much for the steam room, but I have any used them as often either.

Good for you. Try alternating sauna for as long as you can take it then get in the shower with full cold water for a few minutes then back in sauna. Do that a few times. Feels real good, makes my joints feel good.

I went to school in Austria for awhile and the gym on campus had sauna, cold pool and hot tub, alternating the 3 is really great.

Roger... Thanks guys. Just don't want to be dieting and pushing weight to only loose it for a few minutes of hot air!

Its better for your muscles if you use the sauna BEFORE the workout. Remember, hot before workout (to losen up) & cold after workout (to help repair).

Dont worry its not going to hinder your gains one bit using the sauna.

I love the steam room & hot tub as well!

Gotta make sure you stay hydrated if your going to do that stud. I personally think post workout is best for two reasons:

1) It's a good way to detox your body of toxins, including lactic acid.

2) It helps speed recovery so your fresh for your next workout.
