Endo won't let patients inject themselves

APOLLON, the forum won't let me reply to your private message. I can say that my T was normal until I started using the lumbar pain pump, which puts the meds down in that area. All my mental illness stuff predates any low T stuff by decades. Thanks for your help.

sometimes physicians worry that if they let the patients take it home you will take more than your suppose to and they worry they cannot control the dosing.

Sometimes they will make an exception if you let them know you understand their concern and reassure them you will stick to the dosing guideline he/she set forth.

hope this helps

Thank you for the advice. I would think this concern would be 100x with insulin. I will convey that to my doctor, but he seemed like it was an iron clad policy. I'll try anyway and go from there. Do IMT Dr.s accept Medicare?

Hard to say...
did you have your Estradiol tested as well ?

I just got bloodwork done and will see the doc on Thurs.. I'm not taking any test. now but will hopefully resume. My Estradiol is 19. Does that help? My LH and FSH are within normal. Thanks.

Can you post all your blood work results with their reference ranges?

Only a base test was done plus LH and FSH to make sure it isn't pituitary glad, if I remember correctly.

Testosterone - 126.9

Lh my value=1.8 mUnits/mL
Male: 20-70 Years 1.5-9.3 Munits/ml

Fsh my value=4.5 1.4 - 18.1 mUnits/mL

Estradiol my value=19 pg/mL

post Menopausal:
(untreated): <33 Pg/ml
male Normals: <41 Pg/ml

You need to get back on TRT as soon as possible. It is dangerous over the longterm to leave your TT that low. Just for comparison, women at their peak have TT around 70.

You have Secondary Hypogonadism.

You should start looking for another dr. Also there's more test that should be ran such as prolactin, free test, pregnenolone, dhea and vitamin D just to name a few. I started off with a GP who gave me androgel. It worked for a few weeks then subsided. I found a urologist and he freaked out when my total test got to 864. He told me it should be in the 300's (I'm 41 years old!). I found another dr's office that specializes in hormone replacement therapy. They do a full lab work up and allow self injections twice a week. It's a tough road to travel but I feel very lucky that I feel that I'm dialed in with my protocol after 6 months. I've been self injecting since January and wouldn't have it any other way. Keep us updated and post any lab results you get. There's enough people on here with far more experience than I have that can help.

I share your frustration. I have to shlep to the doc's office every week for injections because the hospital the practice is associated with prohibits self-injection. I made a formal request, pointing out that the same practice prescribes Schedule II drugs like Hydrocodone and Codene which do not require office visits. Can you imagine if a patient had to see his doc three times a day for pain meds. Deaf ears. Even pot is prescribed for distribution at dispensaries.
It has been a particular inconvenience when I travel. We have to boost the dose and manipulate the dosing schedule, which is not good. It only confirms that they are more interested in preserving a policy than in patent convenience. That doc has offered gels and some kind of lozenge that dissolves in the mouth. That is not a solution. My protocol works great for me. A patient should not have to abandon a successful treatment approach to accommodate an indefensible institutional policy.
I located another doc (endo) who does prescribe, but he would not support my current dosing (150mg pw) that keeps me in the mid 700 range in my trough. He shoots for 400's. I am very healthy at my current level and do not want to mess with that or deal with a practice that prescribes according to the numbers rather than clinical response. I also located a "men's health" practice three hours away that will prescribe, but they do not accept insurance. As it stands, my coverage pays for everything.
At some point I suspect I will find the right doc. The struggle you and I have is a reflection of the fact that TRT is still regarded with some prejudice. We all suffer for the abuse of others.
My best to you in your journey to good health.

Thank you for the responses. Like I said, I'll be seeing my doc on Thurs and will go back on test. I really don't know how to go about finding another doctor.

If the highest test level you reached while on the gel was 300, I'd say that was too low. And chances are pretty good your estrogen was too high since gel has a propensity for converting to E. Having estrogen levels too high tends to have a side affect of depression. And since depression and anxiety go hand-in-hand, that may have been why your anxiety got worse. Just a thought.

I hope you're right. Thanks for the postulation. I was only on a half a dose of the Androgel because of the extra anxiety though. My depression did in fact get worse, along with dreams, and the anxiety usually does go hand in hand with me (as with most others as you say). I'm really hoping the injections will just take care of it. Otherwise it's going to be a long and frustrating time ahead. But I should still eventually find another doc.
