Ervin Santana 80 Game Ban for Using Winny

Just heard that Twins pitcher Santana got an 80 game ban for using Winny. You would really think that these guys would be better about not getting caught given all the money they are getting paid -- or maybe he really is telling the truth and didn't know he was taking it.

When I first heard the news I did think that Winny was an odd choice for a pitcher given the joint dryness it causes. His shoulder and elbow must hurt on Winny. And somehow he didn't get for using Testosterone. Surely these guys aren't running oral-only cycles given all the help available to them. But lots of ball players have gotten busted for Winny over the years including Rafael Palmiero.

So what do you guys think? Did he tell the truth that he didn't know it was in something he was taking? Or did he just not do a good enough job of side stepping the drug screening? Any thoughts on why a pitcher would choose Winny?

I think most pro athletes are on gear. I don't blame them. If you ain't cheating, you ain't trying lol

Altought possible, I dont think any grown man with a reputaion on the line manages to have an illegal drug in his body without knowing how it got there. He would have to be taking pills given to him by someone and just take them based on the word of whoever gave them to him as to what they are. Seems a bit ridiculous to me. But this is a funny world filled with funny people and anything is possible.

Or maybe his coach was sneeking in IM shots while he was sleeping :p

But why would he runny Winny by itself? Wouldn't he have been busted for taking exogenous testosterone as well if he was consciously taking Winny? I suppose the other possibility is that he managed to bypass the drug test for one compound but not the other...

Why? My guess would be as good as yours. I would ASSUME though that MLB athletes or other typical sport athletes most likely arent awares of how AAS can affect ones HPTA. They are strictly for the performance enhancments it provides. But, like you said with all the strain on the shoulder, elbow, and wrist as it is seems Win is an odd choice. But if they dont know much about how AAS affecta HPTA I doubt theyd know much about side effects from this or that drug.

Just my .02 anyways. I could be totally wrong.

If I had recently signed a $54M 4-year contract, I would think I could find someone to help me with putting a good cycle together and avoid getting caught.

Absolutely!

Who knows man. Theres a ton of politics in sports and I would assume a league looks good if they catch someone using PEDs. Maybe it a case of lets catch one guy so attention is taken away from the hundred other guys using them. Geez, I wouldnt be surprised if they payed him to get caught, lol. Kinda like international drug smugglers setting up runners to get caugh so the big fish slides through. Who knows, kinda sounds like conspiracy know that Ive wrote that. But when theres large sums of money involved in sports anything can happen.

Yeah but these guys have everyone do everything for them. If they're told do this you'll have better performance which equals more money alot not all of them will act just like the newbs that come here looking for the magic pill and do or take what there given with out educating themselves first.

The athlete figures that the ones giving it to them have everything figured out for them and they wouldn't let anything bad happen to them physicaly or legally because the athlete is their meal ticket.

I think they should lift the PED ban (along with making them legal in general) so its a fair game. All althetes are now required to take PEDs. Imagine the top 10s on sportscenter!!!!!!! Minds would be blown!!! Hahaha!

Can't do that, there's WAY too much money invested in bullshit supplements and athletic gear.

Unless... They just started putting PEDs in Wheaties and Gatorade, then the fancy LeBron 500 dollar shoes had auto-injectors. That just might work! Nike could have new tren-fabric, underarmour could have nandrolone woven in.. There we go!

Ahh, to dream. :wiggle:

I like the way you think HW. The future is in estrogen-wicking fabrics.

I would not mess with anything making all that money

Ya for sure. I mean the guy is obviously good if hes being paid that amount of money and thats based of natural skill not enhanced skill. Not as though he has to prove himself now.

Then you wouldn't likely be making that kind of money. ;)

Getting around sports drug testing has always been an interesting topic for me. I'm just intrigued by the sophistication involved in staying a couple steps ahead of the governing body and their affiliated labs. For anyone else interested, reading up on or listening to interview with Victor Conte is a great primer into the complex world of evasion and manipulation that are involved in competing sports drug testing. Most of the info he puts out publicly is outdated by 3-4 years of current practices, but itl gives you an idea of the micro dosing protocols and masking that goes into a properly planned cycle for the athletes. It's absolutely amazing chemistry and biology. THey have perfected the less is more philosophy and short burst cycles are more the norms for tested athletes. The future of new compounds is everything Bill Roberts predicted it would be and driven by the need to avoid positive tests. Bottom line here is that a mistake was made. A compound was mistimed, testing was a surprise, or something contaminated a medication and a positive result came in. A very expensive positive result.

I can't see winstrol and pitching being s good idea. I pitched in HS and the next day I didn't want to use my right arm. Just a deep ache.
