I'm taking 250 a week of test and 600 a week of deca and I'm at about the halfway point in my cycle so I knew it was time to give blood and get bloods checked. We have a mobile red cross that comes to my work so it was perfect timing. When I went through the prescreening my blood pressure was a little high..150/89 I think which they said was ok. My red blood cell count was 18.4 and when the guy doing the test said wow I asked him what he meant. He said normal range is around 12 and the max is 20 and that 18.4 was the highest he'd seen and that it was a good that it was higher as it helps them?? From what I've read here higher is not better so I guess I don't understand his thinking? Also are there any symptoms of having higher RBC??

I donate blood on a regular basis. The red Cross does not check red blood cell count. What you are referring to is iron. Mine was around 18 as well the last time I donated as well. The guy asked if I ate a lot of red meat - I dont.

There is no health issue to be concerned about with an iron level of 18.

Strange, I swore he said Red blood cell count, did they put your sample in a little red box? Just trying to clarify, it wouldn't be the first time I misunderstood someone!

It means your blood is thick which makes it harder for your heart to work. Make sure to give blood and not plasma

They do check RBC. Mine's always on the high side. They usually just say it's good that I'm donating because it will help lower it.

blood pressure, resting heart rate, and RBC are ALL checked prior to being able to donate blood.. they check these for YOUR health and if any one of them is too high then you can not donate blood (its a liability for them).

but, before they even get to the finger prick to test RBC they check heart rate and blood pressure,, if your resting heart rate is over 110 they send you home, if your BP is over 180 on the systolic side or 100 on the diastolic side, they send you home.
I've been sent home for both trying to donate while on a Dbol blast.

And also, if your RBC or Iron come back too high, they send you home as well.

Of course, one of the benefits to AAS use and why athletes take them for athletic performance is because HIGH RBC is actually a good thing and means your carrying more oxygen and blood during athletic performance, which leads to better performance. its NOT an inherently BAD thing like some guys on the boards think.. but, if it gets TOO high, then that can create a problem with thick blood, and just the opposite happens, instead of better performance you become lethargic and its hard to breath and you get out of breath easy.

Thanks for pointing this out.

It actually is HEMOGLOBIN they do the finger prick test for guys, not RBC. That's done after by the lab. ;)

Finally! This thread was killing me. Hemoglobin contains iron.

It's interesting you point that rbc testing is done at the lab afterwords. Unfortunately the red Cross does not share the results.

Mauri,
that is not too surprising for a Deca cycle. That compound is occasionally used to treat anemia and is really good at cranking out the RBC's

Yes, you're correct. You can ask to see your chart by the way; they have to show you by law, although I just smile at the young things and ask. ;)

Nice clarification half. Also Op, to your other question...too high hemoglobin causes your blood to get too viscous and it makes it harder to pump through your body. High blood pressure, heart attack, stroke etc CAN result if left unchecked. Stay in range and you should be good.

Also, do yourself a favor and learn some of these basic blood parameters so it'll help you as you play the game during the aging process. It becomes more challenging as you age for sho!

Good on ya for donating for more than one reason too!

Mauri,

When u run 19 s you need to give regularly or semi..as pointed out your motor oil s gotten thick and harder pump. Giving blood make s for NEW blood..new blood is better than tweaked blood.

Thank you everyone for all the info!! I have been trying to learn more about blood and hormone values seeing as I am older and for me it's all about being safe. It's funny (not really) when you talk to the guys at the gym they make cycling aas sound so easy...just inject this and that and you'll get swole. No one ever talks about the ramifications of the stuff you're injecting into your body. After reading all of the stickies over and over and learning as much as I can from everyone here I still can't comprehend how anyone can be so stupid/desperate to build muscle that they will just stick a needle in there ass with out knowing anything about it? I get asked by my friends to set up a simple first cycle for them, so I write everything down for them, what to take during cycle, what to take after the cycle, bloodwork and the first thing they say is do I really need to take all the extra stuff? So I explain everything that I can to them and tell them to come check out this website and do some research before starting...only 1 in 7 has listened to me and has run his cycle correctly and done bloods! The worst part...all of these guys are in their late 20's early 30's, you'd think they'd know better??

Anyways, thanks again for everyone's help! I'm still learning (daily) when it comes to aas so I greatly appreciate everyone's time and patience!!

Really? So the next time you give blood you ask for your test results from the previous donation?

Funny thing u say that. I had a buddy at the gym yesterday tell me that his Dr. put him on cholesterol meds, said it was too high. He was in the middle of a tren cycle. Not now he stoped after Dr appointment. He also said his Dr told him he should have been donating blood while on tren.

Yep. They keep a file on you, and it includes RBC, WBC, plasma losses, platelet counts, pathogen evaluation and previous vitals. You *might* be able to access this from their site too; but I've never tried.

Maurij1: You would be surprised just how stupid/ignorant folks can be. I know deep down it's obvious that I use AAS, but I still deny anything beyond TRT at the gym/work. Every so often I do open my mouth, and they either nod while still thinking the opposite, or just decide to remain ignorant.

Just won Mr Ole Miss.

There was a blood drive going on in the Commons..
An RN says "Hey you look like u got blood to spare !"

I very politely told the cutie after getting close enough not to be heard and but be able to SMELL her " Ma am if you put my blood into someone...they will start holding water and get mad...."

" Gotcha...it dawned on me as u walked up...."

:-) Smelled like teen spirit
