I just thought I would share this general information with everyone. Although it is certainly nothing new to most, it appears to be a major concern to others.
Brief history:
I am a 39 year old male who juiced regularly from the age of 18 til about 32 when an unexpected injury occurred and sidelined me from competitive sports and training. My gear has always been prescribed by a sports physician until now which is how I ended up finding this marvelous forum (I actually found the forum about 5 minutes ago … just ask Rocko).
I am a Canadian currently living and training in Portugal. My only passion outside of training are Harleys and choppers.
As a result of all the aforementioned I order a ton of shit from all over the world (mainly Canada, USA and GB). Supplements, Parts for my bikes, clothes and now gear etc. etc. On average I probably receive a minimum of 20 international packages per month all of which are supposed to go through customs.
This week one of my orders were seized by customs and I received a letter advising me that I had 30 days to claim the items and provide the appropriate documentation as they claim the package contains controlled substances. The source is irrelevant because it is not the fault of the source. In my opinion it is purely a numbers game and this one did not make it through.
In the three years I have lived here I would estimate 1 out of every 10 packages I receive is opened by customs but subsequently delivered. I know this because they advise me the package was opened in case I was too stupid to notice the customs tape on the repack. Of all the opened packages in 3 years only 4 packages (that I can recall) were seized in a similar manner and they were all performance parts for one of my choppers. All the documentation received was the same as that received for the gear seized this week. The parts were eventually received once I did the appropriate paper work and paid the necessary fees.
If I receive anything further regarding the gear package I will gladly update this thread as this will be the first package I do not claim in Portugal and most countries within the European Union likely handle these matters in a similar manner.
I just wanted to share this as it is from first hand experience and not a story about a friend of a friend who knew a guy etc... etc...
If anyone is interested I will try to scan and post the letter after I block out all the confidential information. Keep in mind it is in Portuguese but you can use an online translator if you are interested in the specific content. Words like 'controlled substances' and 'seized' are pretty much universally understood terms .... LOL
Cheers!!!
