Getting back in the gym again...finally...

It's been some 8 months or so since I've had any sort of regimented gym schedule.

I'm 264 pds (6' 4"), coming from 250ish, and flabby.

I'm starting a swimming routine for 4 days a week at 1 hour. What should my weight training goals be?

I really just want to lose the fat and keep some bulk w/out the lovehandles, ya know. No six pack needed just yet, but I would like to fit comfortably in my clothes (some of which I don't fit anymore).

I've had a really rough year so I couldn't or wouldn't hit the gym. My old man passed, all types of shit.

Appreciation!

Sorry to hear the bad news bro theres nothing that anyone can really say to comfort that kind of blow to your life hope you found your path again. anyway on the topic at hand.

Why not just wead yourself back into whatever routine you were doin before then start making minor changes???

I appreciate that, bro.

I guess that makes sense. It just sucks getting back at it from scratch again...

My fuckin' clothes don't even fit anymore... and I know it's going to be some months before they fit again if I stick to my routine/diet.

I really fell off. But if I keep up this way the depression is going to kill me. I've been like an animal, breaking shit all over the house and drinking into oblivion.

At least I know what makes me feel better... that iron!

We'll see, huh...

Thanks again, bro.

I would suggest a training program where you focus primarily on gaining tone. (as the saying goes, lower weight and higher rep). I'd focus on your fundamental lifts (bench press, clean and jerk, deadlift, squat) and try to rebuild your foundation.
Obviously, drinking excessively is going to hinder your progress. If you have to drink, opt for lo-cal drinks like tequila. No Beer or Sparks, or very limited amounts.

Besides that, I love to swim man. Just stay committed (as I'm sure you know) and you'll be back up there in no time :)
