I lay flat on the bench press with no arch in my back at all. I have a more narrow grip than normal people. If a normal grip is pinkies on the ring, my pinky is like maybe 2 inches closer than the ring. I feel I have more power in closer than normal. The rep is very clean and perfect with no bounce. I touvh the chest with the bar, but very gently. I want to do that 3 more times.

sooner or later if you dont tuck those shoulders and arch your going to hurt those shoulders benching heavy that way .:(

I will try arching, but im not taking my ass of the bench. Thats cheating. Also, am I supposed to keep my shoulder blades close together?

who the hell said to raise your ass of the bench lol . the arch is between your ass and the traps which both stay on the bench . and yes draw your shoulder blades down and back

LOL! Sweet, thanks. So that will hopefully help a little bit. It probably takes some practice too.


Now I gotta learn some strength training exercises. Maybe I will start some negatives, and see if that gives me some extra strength.

That would be arching your spine in the wrong direction, same thing as putting your feet in the air spreading your ass cheeks for everyone to look at, WTF are some people doing.

Ok, im going to start griping the bar wide like you. I know I will be using less weight though. Is that going to be a smart move for me?

Will doing that make my normal closer grip bench stronger?

dont move that far in one jump , try pinkies on the ring for a while . dont be surprised if your bench drops sligtly for a while , your body will adjust and make a comeback pretty quick . also KEEP those elbows in dont flare the out , you want them tucked in at least a 45% angle from the body , some do even closer than that .

ok, so every week I will go further out until im as far as pullinbigs grip.

DADAWG, so I keep my elbows close to the sides of my body? Just want to make sure I fully understand.

Im excited! I hope my chest starts getting stronger and bigger because of this. Even a little bit will be great.

keep the elbow at least at 45% , try pinkies on the ring for several weeks .
 
lok at jeff's benches. he has perfect form. the only dif is you are raw and he is shirted so he brings the bar dont much further than you need to. the bar on raw benching will be just below the pecs normally.

So you guys think my pecs will honestly grow a bit more by making my grip wider?
 
I've tried it and tried it but going wide makes my shoulders hurt in a bad way :(

sucks, I would like to be benching more but if I move my pinkies outside the rings my left shoulder explodes.
