hack squat variation

i have attempted to use a few time but never felt cofortable using it. i do not like the angle or the ROM it allows for, along with the fact that it typically never has enough freaking wt on it.

i think the one in the picture is called a horizontal leg press. anyway I tried it once and it was terrible. it hurt my knees.

This may sound odd, but the only way I can do hacks without hurting my knees is to place my feet about 6 inches apart at the "bottom" of the platform.....then, I bring my heels together so my toes point out at a slight angle. I think there is a name for this kind of variation, but I can't seem to find it. I can really feel it hitting the teardrop muscle above my knee and my inner quads.

used the 45 degree old school hack squat and my knees hurt too bad today. Even with my feet placed high on the platform and wide.

Going to go back to leg press for my assistant movements.

Anyone else get knee pain from hack squats?

That is why I have omitted them from my workouts--they are just too hard on the knees without enough benefit over regular squats.
