Hard to diagnose night sweats

Wondering if anyone else experiences night sweats that their docs can't diagnose. I'm in my late 50s and have had them for about 4 years. I was tested for all the catastrophic illnesses they could be symptomatic of. My doc said my low T suggested andropause, so I've been on TRT for 2 years. The TRT has helped with energy and stamina, and all my other blood work suggests healthy ranges...nonetheless the night sweats continue. They're more annoying than debilitating. But I feel if I knew the cause I could do something to control them. Any thoughts?

man there's a million things it could be. stress, being overweight, anxiety, along with many others. blood work would be a good start to the investigation

For me, night sweats were 100% caused by high estrogen. I used to get night sweats and hot flashes daily. Once I got E under control, it all got better, and fast.

I was having some night sweats a few weeks ago. While I can say for sure, I was drinking protein before bed (50 grams) and when I removed that and drank it a few hours before (25 grams instead of 50) they went away. So, while you are waiting for blood work, maybe look at your before bed diet? All I know is that it helped me.

Hi man and welcome to the board.
I'm 62 but for at least 8 years I have been running hot, I mean I need t be in A/c at 70-72 max or I sweat. When I am on cycle I night sweat pretty bad. Enough to maybe ( not always) make one T-shirt change.

I can't sleep unless it is extremely cold in my house. Everyone has blankets over them and I am shirtless. My father in his old age got that way. I have had my BW and E2 checked due to cycling and it has been not really related for me. UNLESS my E2 was 100% crashed and I have done that.

After I drink a strong protein shake I breakout in a heavy sweat... SO ?? You are not alone

Thanks Megatron28. My endo's not the best in the world at TRT. I'm having him retest my Estradiol. do you think elevated Estradiol could be the cause of night sweats? If so, what's the best way to lower it. I've heard there are side EFX with Nolvadex. I already have a pretty clean diet so there's not much more I can do there.

Thanks OMM

Thanks for the thoughtful response Mike. Trying to rid myself of these night sweats was what got me on TRT in the first place. My endo just shrugs his shoulders and says he has no clue what causes them. I'm basically pretty healthy. But yeah..those two t-shirt nights are getting old.

Thanks Jim

Thanks Jim...I had the night sweats even before TRT. So I'm thinking elevated E made my low T levels worse. And now that I'm on TRT they are still elevated which is why I'm still having them. Quite the mystery. Any advice on how you lowered your E?

As others here have attested to, high estradiol can cause night sweats. If your estradiol is high there are options like Aromatase Inhibitors or DIM for lowering it. Often changing your protocol for TRT (e.g. injection frequency) can make a huge difference too.

Nolvadex is SERM, so it would not lower estradiol.
