I'm doing some consulting for a guy who is considering starting a small retail operation selling supplements (protein power, creatine, BCAAs, pre-work out/post work out supplements, vitamins, etc). In doing some initial research it looks like there are a few major distributors that sell most of the major brands wholesale to the retailers. Has anyone on arfcom gone down this road? I'm looking for input about the pros/cons of buying direct from the manufacturers as opposed to buying from a wholesale distributor. Also trying to get an idea of start up costs involved to buy product. What levels of commitment do the manufacturers and wholesalers require in order to make doing business worthwhile?
