Ok cheers for clearing that up! A few articles explained it differently like it was an excuse for a piss poor diet but obviously that isnt the case
Cheers guys, turns out I was doing 'IIFYM' all along
Junk food = me feeling like I've been fed a high GI chemical poison meal = feeling like shit/heavy brain fog/shit feeling = diet and training out the window = bad effect on body comp.
If you followed IIFYM then you shouldn't feel like shit since your meals would contain protein, carbs and fats - making the GI list completely useless for modern diets/nutritional trends.
GI only applies if you eat a high GI carb by itself, the minute you add protein/fats to the meal the GI value falls drastically.
"Feeling like shit" doesn't mean you can't train hard (ask anyone on a severe caloric deficit), "feeling like shit" also doesn't mean you should go and binge and ruin all your efforts - that's all you & your mind, not the food.

I'm just going by my experiences fellas, it's a fact that fast food makes me feel very lethargic and foggy after I eat it. Regardless of the amount, yet I never have a problem with my home cooked meals I stick to. It's disgusting stuff, the more I stay away from it the more I learn to hate it.
All a good thing though!
I am not denying that it's not so much the food, rather the macro intake that deems whether you gain, maintain or loose and I have always said that.
From my personal experience eating "dirty" causes me to retain water, and bloat up like a woman on birth control.
I would advise against IIFYM, but if it's a friday night and you want a cheeseburger.... Why the fuck not?
I personally try to avoid anything made by man when wanting to look my best.
I appreciate your new here, but the OP's questions was does eating "dirty" effect body comp (fat loss/muscle gain).
The answer is no.
If your macros were the same, the only reason you would retain water - as you admitted in your 2nd post - is because of an electrolyte imbalance (salt).
Also, the calorie content would stay the stame - so chuck out your enzyme theory![]()
Oh, I didn't read the question as in fat loss/muscle gain, but in a more literal sense.
I do believe consuming your macro nutrition from junk food versus natural foods does impact your physique cosmetically.
Example,
Hitting all your macros via Burger King VS real food would result in a different physique cosmetically speaking.
There's a reason Jay Cutler doesn't eat a Big mac to hit his fat/protein needs. Assuming we're talking about your average beach going Joe than I feel the answer is "no/insignificant" like you said.

Why would hitting your macros through burger king instead of "real" food make you look aesthetically different?
The answer is, cosmetically, it wouldn't make the slightest bit of difference but I'm giving you a chance to justify this anyway
Also, jay cutler, and most ifbb pro's, are generally poor examples to use when it comes to nutrition and training.
Apart from certain protocols that need to be followed the week before a show (water manipulation, carb load timing, etc), IIFYM alone will easily get you into single digit bf% with a ripped physique.
