Just curious but...
...what would happen if one did ever inject into a vein?
Depends on what you injected. In the case of roids...probably not much would happen at all---except that you'd have wasted most of your gear.
Most injectible steroids are oil-based, and oil-based gear will not last long enough to cause any serious problems if injected directly into systemic circulation. They aren't like water-soluble drugs that are quickly absorbed into plasma. The liver will begin to break down the compounds before they have the chance to be completely absorbed. Blood circulates through the body at a relatively high rate of speed, which doesn't give oil-based preparations enough time for proper absorption before that happens. That's why they are injected into muscle tissue where they undergo better absorption and result in better generalized distribution since they are released into the blood stream more slowly.
Now, there are drugs that are intentionally pushed directly into systemic circulation intravenously or intraosseously to bring about an immediate effect on one or more of the critical centers (i.e. cardiovascular, respiratory, neurologic) in a medical emergency (i.e. adenosine, atropine, vecuronium,...) But I can't think of any injectible steroid that could so rapidly and dramatically impact critical body functions as these drugs, especially after just one accidental IV administration. And if such a steroid exists I doubt that any of us would chance using it.
