You don't have to have the DiVX player, but you do have to have the DiVX codec. I wouldn't be surprised is the DiVX player comes bundled with the DiVX codec, but during install there is probably an option to not install the DiVX player if you prefer that.
I updated the post with the video with a link to download the DiVX codec. The codec doesn't install automatically because DiVX v4 and higher isn't from Microsoft. Microsoft has their own video codecs.
Zoom Player is a very good video player if you desire something better than Windows Media Player. One nice feature is the ability to skip ahead and back in 5 second increments (I think that , skips back and . skips forward); although if there aren't a lot of keyframes this may be problematic. The standard verison of Zoom Player is available for free and download links can be found off of this page.
