I can use an eliptical cross trainer for an hour now on a high resistance without any probs but when I go on a treadmill I cannot manage 5 minutes running.

I have the same problem with walking, if I walk about two miles my shins hurt like hell the next day and take a good week to 10 days before they return to normal.

I know when I was a kid, and to some extent now my feet are a little far apart compared to most people and I think this is because of my knees being the cause. (Image rickets but the knees point in rather than out).

It's not a huge problem, but I would at least like to understand why my bloody shins hurt so much when it never bothers anyone else.

Thanks!

Mudge got the shin thing.

As for the running only 5 minutes, it's because your using a totally different set of muscles in a toally different manner when you run as compared to when on the eliptical. I ran into the same situation when I first started running. I worked on it by doing workouts with 3-4 minutes of walking, then 1 minute of running, then 3-4 walking again, then 1 minute running, etc... I slowly upped the running time and within a couple months I was running 3 miles without stopping. After a while I was able to run 10 miles continuous and felt great. Takes time... Now at 275lbs I do not run...period! ;)
