how much size can a frame hold?

The Conquistador

Ology's Golden Boy
I keep hearing people say "with him being xxx feet tall and all, he should be able to hold xx lbs on his frame with a few cycles" what exactly determines how much weight can be held genetically? and is there any truth in being able to take a persons height and calculate it?

It has more to do with bone structure I believe. There's some calculators online I believe, but I wouldn't take them as gospel.

Don't trust the calcs, they just guesstimate to no avail. You can tell how much your frame will hold by looking in the mirror. If you are 180 and thin you know you can hold 250 easy if you workout. If you look huge at 160, you probably won't break 200 easily.

I started at 6' 170 thin as heck after a year of training and am at 220 right now. Just looking in the mirror I figure I can hold 250 well but it will take time.

At 5ft7 I do not consider myself to have a heavy bone structure, I have always been fairly lean and my wrists are small, yet I am carrying 212lbs at 10% bodyfat. This has taken lots of time and effort. My fiancee is convinced that I could handle more size on my frame. She wants me to see how big I can get staying under 12% bodyfat. Having a motivator like her has made all the difference in my potential for growth.

that would be awesome to have a girl like that. most don't really get the whole draw of bbing.....heck, sometimes im not even sure I do, but its always there going strong

Most bodybuilders probably never come close to their potential for their particular structure. Outside influences get in the way and a supportive environment, good diet, and time to train are hard to come by. My fiancee makes sure that I eat enough good healthy food, and she is the one who truly wants me to push for greater size. It is much easier to stay motivated when you have someone to push you.

WOW!

I'm a hair over 5'7 and am currently at 184lbs. About 1.5 years ago I was weighing in at 143lbs. Its taking time but I dont mind the weight. My goal for this year was to reach 200lbs. then cut back down. I'm almost certain it will happen. ;) All I need now is a GF who can motivate me like that and be nothing but supportive.

Psh... screw calculators and theoretical limits... eat, workout, and hump till your skin rips open =)

I'm at 190, right now (6'), I've come a long way from 155 a few years ago... I still feel as though I'm skinny, though.

SSMLA, how long you been training. lol I keep having to tell myself "size takes time" but it doesnt sink in very well lol

I started lifting half-@ssed when I was 16y/o and 130lbs. By 18 I had only gone up to 150 because of wrestling. Then I took a year and did some serious work to get to 180 lookin thin and got stuck for about two months. Then this past year I took it to the next level and am up to 220 right now and people still think I'm on a cutting cycle because I can't get rid of my sixpack. It'll come, just train hard and give your genetics a run for their money.

The only online calculators I've seen deal with natural lifters only, and even though I still consider myself small-ish I'm outside of their paramaters.
