How to get motivated to lift after a long time

I am a 19 yo guy who used to lift crazy since I was 16 until 2 years ago when I moved to US. I am trying to get my life together as speak but I lost 90% of gains and gained a beer belly. I started lifting 3 days ago and I am depressed about how I cant even bench the weight that I used to warm up with. I need to break away from this feeling how do I do it ?

The best thing to do is stick with it and dont give up. Eventually you start to see progress and that will be your motivation to keep going. Its hard at first especially when youve taken steps backward, but keep at it.

I had a 4 year lay off from the gym and when I went back it was pathetic. But once things start happening they happen fast.

Be positive and dont give up.

If you're 19 then you still have a lot of years of high natural testosterone ahead of you. You'll gain it all back very quickly with a strict diet and disciplined training

I'm in the same boat as you. Haven't lifted in 3 years because life got in the way. Got back on the horse last week.. feel super weak. Going to watch your thread and see what advice everyone is giving .

After I twisted an ankle that refused to heal, I had the same problem on getting motivated after turning into a half a couch potato, I eat a powerful meal and listen to this https://soundcloud.com/cristianvarela/maroto-bosco-blackout-cristian and pump it up in my headphones while I hit the weights. Works for me all the time and I get asked all the time by fella bodybuilders at the gym what I'm listening to because I'm always grooving to the beats in my head.

Its all about motivation, getting psyched up, getting into the routine, just do it. There are a million reasons not to workout and take care of your body but there is only one reason that you should really be hitting those weights and getting into beast mode. Find that one reason and the rest will fall into place.
