How to know when bottle-top filters are spent

Just like the title says, how do i know when the bottletops are done? I used to use nalegenes and they would puncture after a while and the oil would just come through all at once. However, i recently switched to the Cornings, and these DO move the oil through alot faster, but i'm worried its too fast. Almost immediately after i pour the solution in and apply pressure i can see SMALL slits/cuts in the filter paper. Is this normal???

Btw i am using 10-15 in.HG of pressure

bumping a 2008 thread as i cant find any info on the net if the slits / cuts in the filter paper are ok, just did a batch of test prop with a nalegene, currently have the oil sitting in the receiver flask sealed up, not sure if its sterile because of the slits / cuts

anyone have any idea?
