Hurt back while on roids...

So I hurt my back doing something in the gym, not sure what or how but I think it was squats. It wasn't really bad but a week ago I was doing some Mma and got put in a triangle, so I tryed to lift out and just felt something tear in my lower back. I hit the floor in pain. I thought I was okay but I guess I never heals from the injury in the weight room, I now cAn not bend over and if I do the pains is so bad I feel like I'm getting stabbed. It's been a week and a half. I got ajusted and it's been 2 days and I feel worse. Today I feel it in my legs a little and in my calves. I have been iceing it and even then the pain in deep in my lower back. I don't have Insurence and I'm scared it's a hernated disc, I'm in pain and it's not getting better any idea what it could be?

Dude, if your pain is shooting down your legs, especially all the way down to your calves, then you probably screwed it up pretty good. Slipped disk, herniated, there are so many different things you could have done. You will probably need a MRI to really tell. Believe it or not there are places that will do a MRI of one location for fairly cheep.

Go to your family doctor, or a general doctor and tell him what happened. They will most likely give you some pain meds like vicodin or a non narcotic pain killer like Ibproferen 800mgs and send you out for a MRI, skip the XRAY it is a waste of money. You will pay 50-150 bux for a xray, if something shows up they will send you out for a MRI anyway so fuck it... If something DOESN'T show up there STILL could be something wrong with your back so they will still send you for a MRI in that instance.

Tell them you need a CHEAPER option for the MRI, and there are places that will do it for $400-$500. Don't get it done at a hospital because they are usually more expensive. If you have to call around, open the phone book and look under MRI in yellow pages. Get prices, there are cheaper places. Go to the cheapest.

So in all, $70 for the doctor and $400 for the MRI. Don't let the damn doctor give you a Xray just tell them you want a MRI. Get your meds filled (max $50 bucks), be careful with them if they give you a narcotic like Vicodin they are very very fucking addictive. Take them ONLY when you need to. (I was addicted to them after a surgery)

To be honest with you, if you did fuck a disk you could be living with this the rest of your life. I know people that have been on pain meds for YEARS. If you do end up having a permanent problem, try to manage your pain without a narcotic pain reliever. The narcotic pain relievers are not good for you, you will build a tolerance for them and you will most likely become addicted to them i you take them alot.

If you need anything else let me know.

Oh yea, when getting the MRI and going to the doc ask for the CASH discount. Most places will give you some sort of discount if you don't have insurance.

When on your pain meds, don't think everything is OK to go back and squat out alot of weight. You are going to need time to heal.

Also, if they are going to give you a muscle relaxer tell them you want flexoril. Soma is the other option and it will fuck you up too much. I used to take them and would just fucking fall asleep. Switched to flexoril and everything was OK. Like I said before, you may be on these damn meds for a long time. So you want to get on something that doesn't fuck you up but takes care of your problem.

Let me know what happens, PM me if you need anything. If you can't tell I have been through this shit more than once. Pain can seriously cause havoc on your life. The pain meds can too. I feel for you bro.

i have c6 and c7 herniated in my neck...

I know i will have to live with this for the rest of my life but I work around it.

I still dead lift.. still squat.. etc. BUT first sign of pain I stop and do something else.

It started with pain in my shoulder and hand but after MRI i was told it was actually my neck causing the pain to radiate down.

i take cherry concentrate, glucosimine and chondron, MSM, valerian root, UN flex

these seem to help with joint paint and some inflammation.. however every time i breathe in heavy my spine pops and cracks like your at the Chrio. HAHA.

Im not in pain where i need mediaction but I want to prevent further damage so I work around it.

Best bet is to relax and take it easy for a lil.

Advice might be to go to the doc first, MRI, rest, I also bought an inversion table and hang up side down everyday for a few minutes. helps stretch you back out. take it slow at first though.

good luck..

btw.. i pinched a nerve in my sciatic while working at UPS.. shit was fuked up for a while.. i had to get my mom or girl to tie my shoes and shit.. I would be in class eating pain killers .. it was tough.

after I rested a bit.. i have almost zero problems with that today.. except like raining days or days i dont warm up enough..

be careful and rest. Its the best advice. Its tough not working out but your body needs time to recoup and heal.

Thank u guys so much for the reply...seriously it means sooooo much. Today was the worst day by far. I don't understand how it got worse before it only hurt when I bent over, now it hurts even if I don't bend. I just applied for Insurence till I get approved Im gonna lay low. I don't have much money :( and I'm not working. I'm gonna get to vicodin from a friend and hope that gets me through a few weeks. I hope to go it's not a slipped disc but this hurts so bad and my hammy and calves hurt now. This sucks so much I'm gonna lose all tje weight I gained I'm out of work and my future could be screwed...I just don't know why it got worse :(

hurtin bro, the insurance might take some time. for now just take some time off from training and chill. whatever weight you loose you will get back fairly quick. ( muscle memory) and def listen to "tekno"s advice on the pain meds. Withdrawals are a bitch.

dude, a doc visit and alegit script will cost as much as 10 to 15 pills on the street. i would suggest saving some cash and go to doc. he will give you atleast 20 to 30 pills. plus u will have refills. call around find a cheap quack. or order some tramadol and flexeril from online rx, they are non narcotic and work well on people that havent built a tollerance to pain meds.

I prolapsed 2 disks last year mate (at the same time) i know exactly what your going through. I had constant severe pain radiating down my left leg into my calf and had no feeling at all in my foot the doc literally stuck a needle into the sole of my foot and I felt nothing. I coulnt walk for 3 weeks and was permanently stuck in a kinda fetal position as all my muscles had spasmed to protect the area it took 3 months before I could straightenn out enough to sleep on a bed.

the point of all this, well I was very nearly taken into surgery for this problem but in the end It healed itself now almost good as new the only thing will never do again is heavy squats and dead lifts but not the end of the world as you can work around it.

At worst it sounds like you may have a bulge rather than a tear, but hopefully you have just pinched a nerve you will be better in no time!

Oh book yourself into see a chiropractor they are great and do help, take anti inflammatory meds and keep trying to move it, what ever you do don't bed rest it to much as will be counter productive.

Hope you feel better soon mate, Pm me if you want a list of the physio exercises they gave me.

not to butt in like an ass, but tramadol is a synthetic opiate like vicodin, even though it's not scheduled, u can still catch a nice habit if not careful. just an fyi.

I feel you..and feel for you...everything said above x2...I ve been fucked up from work , weights, sports, motorcycles, skiing...
PATIENCE. Tend to this..and do it properly. I assume your young ? I m not.
You WILL be OK..just when....
I often go to the gym with a plan in mind and then, the knee, or shoulder, left elbow
or lower back says not that exercise today..so you DEAL...work around it.
Screw the mass, and the mma...for now.
I too had a battle with opiates, benzo s following a brutal, near fatal...altercation...
Pain meds will make you think you can move about , train a little. No way..you ll REALLY be set back.
Withdawls are , as mentioned, the worste..worse than the pain.
I wish you well...oh yeah..hot water helps me a lot..hot tub or tub at home...if you can get out of it !
Patience .

I feel nothing,
you are right but I believe (have been wrong before) that it is a partial agonist antagonist. yes you can become addicted to it but I am sure the dude is in some heavy pain. if he doesn't abuse them he should be ok. I am sure the tramadol is less addictive than the vicodin.

Its amazing how many people have had trouble with the pain meds. I am glad I am not the only one, but i don't wish it on anyone. Now I don't feel like a total asshole.

just looked it up, its a partial agonist/antagonist and so it is obviously addictive. scratch what I told you before. try some anti inflammatory meds as someone suggested above, and get to the doc.

I keep reading that I should walk but I can't walk more then 10 feet before the pain starts kicking in. I'm almost sure I have a slipped disc. They say u need to not lay in bed and exersice but I'm in to much pain to exersice. My legs feel so weak my legs Hurt a ton and feel realllly weak. When u herniated ur disc could u walk move???

Bro you have a herniated disc. Probably L4-L5 due to location you are getting symptoms. The weakness is due to the disc protrusion onto the nerve roots that serve your legs. Then pain you are experiecing is caused by this as well as the protective muscle spasm that occured when you tweaked it. You need an MRI, no way around it. Surgery or physical therapy. The longer you wait the more you could be making things worse.

For now try to get your hands on a Medrol dose pack. It is a corticosteroid that will help with the muscle inflammation and pain immediately, if you start this stop the ibuprofen. Flexiril, vicodin if you must, heat and ice, stretch, massage, get a back brace for the time being, keep moving if possible.
Hope it helps. Best wishes.

Take Trimax's advice man.... you have to go to the doctor to get the correct medicine, therapy etc etc. You jacked yourself up and it is not going to just get better without the proper care or diagnosis.

Come on man, get some help. If money is tight find a way to get to the doctor.

Making late is not at all good for you. Immediately consult a orthopaedician. Your pain seems to be related to nerve or muscle damage. Take care of your health.

Good luck bruv.

I feel for all of you US guys about this health insurance bullshit. No-one should have to suffer and stay at home with the yellow pages trying to get barging for his back or spine.
