Hypothetical Question for everyone

I have 2 options - I can stay at my current gym and pay $70.00 for my significant other and my membership or move to a new gym and pay $0.00

Here are the Pro's and Con's of each

Gym 1:

(Pro's)
Pretty much all the basic equipment you would need (ie bench, squat racks, Smith, Various stations)
Dumbbells go up to 160's
Very Little Cardio Equipment
Very few people to bother me

(Con's)
Cost - Biggest deciding factor
Doesn't have a stepmill like i would like
Lacks in Unique equipment that is nice to use for breaks when recouping.

Gym 2:

(Pro's)

Every damn piece of equipment you can think of (except a hack squat) and when i say every thing i really mean it. Shit i've never seen
Cost - Its free so thats never a bad thing
Has a ton of cardio equipment for precontest training (even a stepmill)

(Con's)

Dumbbells only go to 100's
Fairly busy when i would most likely go

So i hope you see what i'm getting at. My thinking is I bust my ass and could make the 2nd gym work. Plus saving close to $850.00 this year wouldn't be bad.

What do you guys think - I know i would miss those Dumbbells though
:(

Switch to all barbell workouts... and your dumbbell issue is solved.

A busy gym would bother me however....

How the heck are you getting a free membership at another gym? I mean, if it is free, couldn't you use it now and have both for the price of one?

No it was a deal worked out between myself and the owner. Part of the stipulation is i'll only use his gym. More or less its a sponsorship deal.

Using barbell's is cool and thats exactly what i'd have to do. However i like dumbbell's and in all honesty this is the only catching point for me.

And your right i tried it today and man it was busy - that and the looks.

Go to the free gym and BUY some dumbells. Im sure the owner wont mind and itll save you money in the long run. And when your not there simply tell the owner to store the dumbells in the back so noone else can use them.

New gym and if ur doin a db wrkout cut ur time between sets dramatically to add intensity.Like Cit said barbell emphasis!

do what i do , do the barbell work first and save any db presses till last of the day , by then you will be tired enough if you use strict form to get some use out of the 100s for most pressing excercises . db rows would be another story but for 850 a year you can adapt . as for busy most of those types of gym wont be incredibly busy at the squat rack or deadlift platform so those will be easy enough and 90% of the weekend warriors bench on monday so move chest day to the end of the week. with a little planning and adapting it will be fine .

Thanks guys. I'm going to go with the 2nd gym. That was just really the plan just needed a push in that direction.

Thanks Again Guys

I'm with Dawg, hit them DBs later in the workout if you have to. I have to say tho, I like heavy DBs, but free is very nice price. I think you're gonna get looks anywhere you go, Freak. Lol!
