I was told I'm an idiot! Muscle Gain

SJC

I am banned!
I was listening to a guy talking about his weight loss. He was about 6'3 ish and said he was at one time just under 300 lbs. Sloppy pounds I must add. He was going on about what scripts he was on for losing weight and what the Dr had him eating blah blah blah.

He has lost 45lbs in the last few months. He said he was at a stalemate and this week he didn't lose any fat but gained 5lbs of muscle. This is where I jumped in and called BS. According to him he is eating less than 2000 calories a day with a high percentage of those calories being protein. He doesn't do any weight training and only rides a bike or does the stair master.

Long story short. I told him he was full of shit and there is no way in hell he gained 5lbs of muscle in a week. He said that he will believe his Dr over me and that I'm and idiot. I said "look at me and look at you" then walked away.

Am I an idiot? I'll admit when I'm wrong but I usually don't get involved in stuff I know nothing about.

What are some of your gains in muscle either Natty or with AAS

I don't think it's possible... even if muscle could be built for the 4-calories-per-gram rate of protein that would be over 9000 calories out of his less-than-14000 calories for the week, leaving little for maintenance. In reality, building a gram of muscle likely takes a great deal more than that.

I would say he is the idiot but I am no expert, if anything on such a calorie deficit and only doing cardio is is burning as much if not more muscle than fat. You have peeked my curiosity, what scripts is he on?

LOL its water dude.

When you diet for a long time, your cortisol levels end up rocketing up.
That's when you look at your numbers and all of a sudden you've gained weight - the assumption being your not losing fat anymore.

What's actually happening is your body is holding more water than usual, which hides any fat loss that may be going on.

His doc is clearly a complete retard to even suggest muscle gain, he probably forgot that lbm includes glycogen, water, etc.

The only one I caught was Phentramine(sp). He said something about having to pee on test strips to make sure he wasn't burning muscle. I zoned out quite a bit after I called BS.

probably testing his urine for ketones i would guess. it's a bi product that's produced when your body is depleted of carbohydrates and starts using protein for energy. if he is ketonic, there's no way he's putting on muscle

Even if ketones are absent - he still isn't gaining muscle.

Ketones in urine tests only appear early on in low carb diets.
After a long time of low carbs, most of ketones will be utilized by the brain & not appear in urine.

So if that is what the doc is checking for - he should know that urine ketone tests are irrelevant when someone has beeb dieting for a long period of time.

^^^hmmmm...i wonder what else he could be checking for. i'm also curious as to what this medication does for fat loss.

Phen is a decent appetite supressant with no thermogenic effects & a really bad "downfall" once you stop taking it.
Its basically ephedrine's legal, weaker cousin.

Your also presuming this doc knows what he's doing - it seems clear to me that he's clueless.

lol.... you couldn't put 5lbs muscle on in a week with 3g test in your system.. lmao

i love these guys who have no idea what they are doing.. they blindly follow their doctor.. is the doc a sports nutritionist or a dietitian with a specialty in sports nutrition and training? if not dont listen to him! he doesn't know shit!!!!

Its scary how Drs are looked at as knowing everything and even scarier that many Dr'd seem to feel like they have to act as if they know everything as well.
