Insulin-Illness/stomach fullness?

Okay here is the deal. I have taken slin the last 2 workouts. Started at 4iu's, then went to 5. Next will be 6 and so on.

The first day was Sunday. I worked out took my shot, then drank my shake. Felt fine. Went home ate another meal which constisted of lean turkey and tortillas. I couldn't eat that much because I felt full.

A little while later I still felt really full, I drank a protein shake anyway.
Then that night I at a chicken pita from Jack in the Box and got food poisoning from it.
When I got home I was throwing up like crazy.

Next day felt better ate my normal meals. Then at lunch time, same thing. Throwing up like crazy. Went home and pretty much ate nothing the rest of the night.

Yesterday I felt really good. Finally went to the gym to do some legs. After workout I shot 5iu's drank my shake and went home. Felt really full again. I tried to eat some more food, but was not able to finish it. I was REALLY stuffed. A few hours later I felt better and ate some more.

Ok after all this babling my point is. Is this normal? Do any of you guys feel stuffed while taking insulin? I am going to try it again today after my workout. If the same thing happens, then I may just not take it any more.

By the way, I am taking Humalin-R.

Thanks!

It happens to me fairly regularly when I overshoot my calorie needs. I have no proof but I suspect it is because insuling shuttles glycogen anywhere it can in your body. Liver/muscle/brain are the first (roughly in that order) and then adipost tissue. I think once your brain gets all the glucose it can hold you feel full. Try sipping your shake. Drink half right away upon injecting then sip on it over the next 15-20 minutes. If you don't start feeling hypo all is well.

Another thing that has helped me alot is increasing my fiber intake and mixing my post work out shake prior to working out and leting the air "settle" out of it while I lift.

Not real scientific I Know but it has helped me.

Thanks for the advice. I think I will try that. I was just drinking the whole shake down about 5-10 min. after the injection. First time taking slin, I guess i was just paranoid about going hypo.

I'll try what you suggested and hope that helps.

Yep and another thing to take into account Hum-R takes a little while 10-15 minutes to get into your system unless your shooting it IM so slamming down your shake right after injecting will cause your body to release its own insulin in response then the hum-r will kick in. At 5 IU it isn't a big deal but if/when you move up to 10 or so IU you will notice a definate difference. Like "WOAH" why am I hypo after such a big shake and only 10 IU, happened to me once when I went sub-q not IM and it dawned on me that I had had much more insulin in my system because of my body's natural insulin then I had planed on.

If I was to shoot the 1/2" insulin needle into say my delt. Would that get IM? Is it long enough?

At the moment I have been pinching the fat around my waist and doing it like that.

Would the Delts/Arms be a better option?

Yep delt is where I go with a 1/2 needle.
I'll dig up a picture of onset times for injection. Abs are best, delts are next best for speed. I don't have the guts to try IM on the abs...

I think bis are ok, but not much better than shooting sub-q in the stomache

It takes awhile for food poisoning to stop messing with ya.. Elijah is right on track with you and insulin makes me eating everything I can get my paws on. IM hits quicker and harder so stick with the 5ius for now until you figure yourself out. I wait 10 to 15 minutes before and sip my shake down. In fact I shoot before my last sets so I can take advantage of that post workout window. Approach it scientificaly and with caution and you will be fine.

Insulin spikes make me feel sick, if I haven't had sugar for awhile (which is pretty much the case) and then I have 1/4 gallon or so of ice cream, often I will feel ill.

The original Swole (creatine + delivery system) did this to people as well.

Please tell me your joking... 1/4 gallon of ice cream on slin is stupid. Insulin spikes don't make you feel sick it is the hypoglycemia that results from the insulins spike...

Well I don't get the stomach fullness anymore. i think it was from the food poisoning.
I have been on Slin for a little over a week now. I still have not felt the least bit Hypo. Even when trying.
I took 10iu yesterday. Then only drank about 20-30g of carbs just to see if I would start feeling something. Well nothing happened.
So I don't get it. What does that mean?

It means you are either insulin resistant or had alot of glucose in your body already.

The 10g/IU rule is a a LARGe generalization.

Well I don't think I had a lot of glucose in the system. I waited a good while before I even went to the gym after I ate.
I don't know. I guess I will just keep using it and see if I notice any changes.
How fast should you see results?

Hey, the 10g/I.U. is crap and it varies immensely between individuals. Personally I don't think insulin works but then this forum is now topped up with my posts on insulin saying this so i won't go on (check em out to see what I mean).

One question though to elijah, are IM injections much more quicker acting? How do you know this. Info would be very useful for me.
