Is it a bad idea to workout on an empty stomach?

Is it a bad idea to workout in the morning on an empty stomach? I tried this out and I was weak and hungry during the workout.
 
Yeah, makes me weak. Eating directly before a workout makes me lethargic and uncomfortable though.

Oats and protein about an hour preworkout do the trick for me.
 
You should have something to eat at least an hour before you workout. However, you do not want to workout on a full stomach either. Squatting with a bellyful of food = projectile vomiting
 
I sip on a carb/whey shake in water from about 15 mins before my workout, throughout my warmup and finish it up after my first work set. Its about 35g carbs, 20g pro.

good thing ya said that...i learned the hard way...thankfully i made it to the bathroom in time...
 
I thought you were supposed to wait 2 hours after eating prior to working out (the Oak said so anyway) not just 1 hour because of having less blood flow to the stomach and more to your muscles when you work out?


Can eating oats and protein shake (as you suggest) actually count as one of your meals of your six meals a day?
 
I usually have calories right before, during, and after training. I don't like to have a full stomach, but lifting on an empty stomach? Forget it.

i usually have egg whites and oats 2 hours before..then pro shake and carbs right after..anything you put in your mouth is a meal even if its a cheat meal..(those have protein/carbs and cals in em too)

this is true, I always wait at least an hour after eating before i go to the gym. My premeal usually consists of alot of carbs/calories which will give u energy. Also sometimes i like to drink a protein shake right before my workout, it makes me feel better during, and afterwards i have another. I like to overdose on the shit.
 
I've been working out on an empty stomach for about 3 months now.. Other than the fact that I am totally drained of energy by the time I finish my workout and sometimes have trouble finishing the last reps, I still am able to complete them. Today was a great workout.. Chest, Back, Shoulders, Biceps, and Triceps.. Well I usually don't feel the soreness until tomorrow so I can't really say it was a good workout. AnYways I think it's fine to workout on an empty stomach imo. I usually have some Whey Protein an hour later... Just my two cents bye.

Lifting weights on an empty stomach is a very catabolic activity. If you are interested in growing, don't do it. Period.
 
Some days I'll do cardio on a semi-empty stomach when I wake up. I'll just down a protein shake and go do cardio for 20 min then come back and eat.
