Very interesting conversation. I would have to agree that shorter guys (myself included at 5'9) have an advantage over taller guys. Lets get back to basics, when it comes down to it it's all about the frame. Obviously, being shorter and stockier and have a thick frame is going to be key for a any PL whether it be benching or squats.
Deadlifts are by far my down fall, so Cwood had that right about the back muscles with taller guys being longer and bigger for the most part.
Squats obviously is easier for a shorter person to add weight. Think about it. The taller you are the more distance you have to go-simple fact!
Everybody tall or short has their own weaknesses and disadvantages. So whatever they are just work that much harder to compensate!!!!
I think its funny, someone stated earlier about the short man ego and working harder to compensate. Very true (at least in my part). I want to get as big as possible to compensate for being short-gives me good motivation.
I'm 5ft 8 1/2" tall. 200lbs, bench 480 max (3 sets 420 6 x's), deadlift maybe max 400lbs, squat 515 max.

Shorter guys can always lift more weight than taller guys but are not necessarily stronger. It has to do with the distance between the resistance and fulcrum of the lever. The greater the distance from the resistance to the fulcrum the longer the lever and the greater the force necessary to move the resistance. The lesser the distance the between fulcrum and resistance the shorter the lever needs to be to move the same resistance with equal force. The lever and fulcrum theory. The lawyer dude is right. Franco Columbo could always lift more weight than Arnold but he was shorter with smaller levers(arms & legs) and fulcrums(knees & elbows) closer to the resistance. It required less force(strength) for Franco to lift the same amount of weight as Arnold on any given exercise due to the placement of Franco's levers/fulrcums relative to the weight. Force = Mass x resistance. Smaller guys can lift more weight it's just the way it is.
I am 5'8" and I have always been able to leg press and squat more than a taller 6'1" guy but that does not necessarily make me STRONGER because the taller guy has to use more FORCE/STRENGTH to leg press the same weight as me.
