Knee Brace

Winter

PR Hungry
When I squat/leg press, my knees feel like they're being compressed. It gets very sore during the time I workout and I feel as if I keep working my legs like this without a kneebrace, they'll like snap in half or something. Can you guys tell me which kneebraces you use? I've been looking through a few such as McDavid, Mueller and some others. I'm looking for comfort, stability, but one that I can still move my legs in the full range of motion kind of kneebrace. Any ideas?

Thanks everyone.

Maybe joint stiffness... i would go check it out just to make sure with a MD. If thats not your thing, just use a lateral knee support, any brand will do i guess

I use the Mueller, the one that has the metal slats for lateral support. Also, its important that you start your squat at the hips rather than the knees.

as someone with plenty of knee experience, go get them checked bro! i had the same problem and finally one did pop! i busted a 1 inch hole in my knee joint and had to have 3 surgeries. they had to take bone off my shin and cover the hole, staple it togethere and inject new cartillage. i have been out of the gym for 2 years!! i am back now and getting back in shape, but can never squat or leg press heavy again. my opinion would be to go get them checked out by an orthopedic surgeon asap!

My knees would hurt a lot when I squatted with 135 without knee wraps. Then I got the GNC knee wraps and can easilly use 225 without them hurting at all. I love knee wraps now, I didn't know they were so effective untill I tried them.

When you use a knee-wrap, do you basically wrap around your knee basically and leave the knee unwrapped like a kneebrace? Same concept?

If i were you, i wouldn't risk it on a wrap. A wrap just helps lock the knee i guess, while the lateral support keeps it all together. However, you can't just hope a knee brace will prevent injury, go get it checked out. I've seen lots of nasty stuff happen from signs like this. They just feel stiffness and brush it off then months later they can't squat.

the first step in preenting injury is aasking yourself WHY you have knee pain when doing squats/leg press..More than likely it is a form issue..are your knees coming over your toes? are you squatting all the way down to your ankles??
hard to tell without seeing you actually squat

the leg press-if youre like 99% of te people i see doing leg presses who load the machine till you cant load it anymore then proceed to move it 3 inches-you may wanna rethink your strategy if thts how you are doing the leg press..

However before any of this do like Gator said and go get a docs opinion

im not picking on you but there is no way you need knee wraps to squat 135-sorry..unless you have had some horrific injury..

personally i had knee surgery a long time ago and practically gave up on squatting..i used wraps but only starting at 315..now since i have widened my stance i never use wraps and i ahve squatted close to 7 with no wraps in my suit

When I do 20 rep squats with a fairly heavy weight, I wear knee wraps, for two reasons. One is that I believe: if properly used knee wraps can prevent injury. The other is purely mental, they give me more confidence to lift heavier weight.

I'm pretty sure my squat form is decent because I've watched a lot of the squat vids that PB posted up on the sticky. Also, I do not only go down 3 inches for the legpress, I try to get my quads all the way down to my chest if possible.

I might want to check up on my form some more though - thanks for the advice.
