knee wrap question

i think people tend to exeggerate any pain related from squatting or pulling..people will bench through a torn shoulder but the second they feel discmofort when squatting or pulling the stop that move altogether...

i think if your having discomfort you should check your form..if its ok using a light wrap may help you squat pain free but i wouldnt use them as a crutch and put them on super tight every time

Louie simmons does not have the guys wrap their knees except in competition, and that is to get bigger numbers, i am 99% sure about that, and i am not saying i am completely correct on everything. But this is something that gets debated to death. You also posted a link to someone who sells knee wraps, and the joeskopec one is telling you how to put them on. Even the bodybuilding.com one says as needed. People saying they have bad knees is as much a joke as the old bad back line. But like i said, their are people that need them, i do agree with that. I just don't think some 18 year old in the gym should be wrapping up with 85% of his max when his max is 300 lbs.
unless your doing mega rep squats over several years i doubt that wearing wraps will cause the cap to rub against the meniscus enough to put much wear and tear on them . that being said i also feel unless you have a LEGITIMATE medical reason theres no need to wear them all the time , if you take a heavy single while squatting by all means wrap up if you want and if you go for a pr on 2 or 3 or 5 reps at a heavy weight by all means wrap up if you like . its not just about protecting the knees which it does or adding to your lifting numbers which they do its also about practiceing/getting used to them before you need them in a contest so you dont bomb out/fall/hurt yourself .

there is no rule of thumb on wrapping. i used to wrap anytime i hit 585 or heavier. now that i am older i wrap at 495 and over. why? cause if i dont my kness are very sore the next few days. if i do the soreness is minimul. it has nothing to do with the weight its just what works for me. does that mean everyone should? no. i am a believer in not wrapping till you feeling pain. as for the original poster if you have form issues yo have no busines wearing wraps til that is sorted out. anyone just getting into squatting dont need wraps anyway unless you have a medical condition.
