knees are overrated....

i aboslutly love to squat. but i seem to have a bottleneck, and that is my knees. any kind of weight above 300 lbs. seems to make my knees go snap crackle pop, although there is no pain... also, it could be the way my quads and hams have developed, but my knees also appear to "point"towards the inside, more than the outside. i have considered getting knee wraps and seeing what they can do for me, but i dont want to build a dependence on them, 300 lbs. shouldne be alot for me, im 290 and 6'3" i have a lot of power in my legs (based on leg press, leg curls, and extensions) i should be able to do more than that on squat. im not sure if i want to go to a doctor just yet, i dont wanna hear the dreaded "take time off" i hate that.... i also considered genetics as an issue, my dad when he was about 7 ran into a tree while skiing and broke both of his legs, and since then has walked, and stood with his feet pointed slightly outward, which in turn brings his knees in. so any advice you guys have on this would be much appreciated. :) thank all ya'll

My right knee pops everytime I squat, with or without weights. A chiropractor squirmed like hell 3 weeks ago when I popped it for her, but obviously didnt tell me how to cure it without handing over some cash first.
Its been like this since I can remember and everytime the knee feels knotted up, I squat down, pop the knee and Im good again. No pain for me either.
Im just gonna continue as I always have, until I marry a chiropractor who doesnt charge mega-bucks to sort it out!

Chondromalacia, perhaps? That could explain the cracking and popping feeling when you're squatting, but I'd think it would be more often than only when you've got 300+ loaded up. Do you feel any grinding or grating when just flexing and extending the knee?

drive you kness apart when you squat. take a wider stance, feet well beyond shoulder width. drop weight and start over again. the porb is that you quads are stronger than you hams and hip flexors. box squats are a great way to teach good form. a guy of you size should be hittin more if all conditions are met. start over with lighter weight and good form and watch you numbers grow beyond where yo were at. read the dead lifts sticky and there is a routine in there as well as some of my workouts that may be of some help to you. good luck and keep us posted.

thanks for the advice guys :) im squatting tomorrow at 9am and i will see how things go :)

im going to do what i can to spread my legs further, and drive my legs outward. thanks pullinbig :D

ive had both knees reconstructed from playing football. before my second one i could squat 550 quiet easily...thats nearly 3 times my body weight. im just starting to get back into squats now. i think the may contributor is the confidence factor....once u are confident u can achieve anything
