Lack of Gains

The amount of protein being recommended is overrated. I know a few guys who are top competitors and one pro who rarely eat more than a gram per pound of bodyweight a day and they do just fine.

I'm currently 235 at 10% bf. Most days I eat 250-260 gr of protein. My calories are 5000+. Up your protein a little, but I would say upping your caloric intake is a much better way to see gains.

Too much protein for me kills my stomach. i cant go over about 350 grams a day. At 600 grams I am sure that I would have explosive diarreha

Anyway at 23% bodyfat you are not going to see your results. It is not that you arent gaining muscle, i be that you are, but you got too much fat over top to see what is happening. The more muscle you have the more fat your body burns. I bet you have burnt some fat and added muscle but they just set eachother off. You problem now is going to get rid of that fat so you can see the new muscle you have added.

Maybe look into some clen for your post cycle therapy (pct) as it will aid in fat loss and also has anti catabolic properties to preserve muscle mass.

imagine where they would be if they did take in the proper amount of protein. I dont understand why something as simple as upping protein would be overlooked. upping protein is uppng calories last time i checked. if youd dbl you protein i guarauntee youd see a big difference.

BTW 235 is small to me. I got 75lbs on ya.

uhmmmm.. its called shakes. i make mine 100g a piece. 2 or 3 a day in conjunction with food will work wonders. protein is the best Anabolic Androgenic Steroids (AAS) out there, bar none.

i take in 600g/d. i know guys well above that. a few are on this board too.

Are you using whey protein? Can the body even use all of that whey protein in one sitting??

what kinda protein we talking here?

as far as seeing results it dont matter if you 50% bf. the weight on the bar is proof that gains are happening. very few folks dont grow if they are getting stronger.

Shit bro, you're 310? That's impressive if you're not over 6'2".

I realize 235 is not huge, but I'm making continuous gains.

i'm 6' even.

seriously though if you would up your protein to 2xBW you would see a big differnce. esp if juicing because we all know what juice does for protein synthesis.

i read an article about ronnie coleman (whether its true or not i cant say) and he takes in 1kilo/d of protein. i met cutler a couple of years ago when he was in town promting NDN. i asked him point blank how much he takes in and he said 800g/d.

ask In-human how much he takes in in a days time. ask DC. drinking shakes is the cheapest anabolic out there and the most effective. juice is a waste if not getting enough protein.

anyway i'll get off the protein podium and let you guys have it.

my 2ml.

whey isolate. how much is actually turned into muscle building blocks has never been determined. what isnt used is stored, used for energy or passed. but what is a constant is that a lack of protein is gonna hold gains back.

our bodies are quite remarkable. we have the ability to adapt to our enviroment. when you first started eating big to be big it was tough. but after some force feeding you adapted and started to grow. as we lift heavier and heavier weights out bodies acclimate by adding size to support that weight. as we ad mor eprotein we acclimate once again to use that protein. it is well documented that protein synthesis is escalated when "juicing". nitrogen retention is in place. more aminos in the cells.

enough said about protein for me. i know what it does and I will continue to grow and get stronger barring injury.

thanks guys.

This has been an awesome post! PB all of your info is duely noted and I am trying to eat as much as I can! Thanks to everyone for contibuting!

I've always wondered about this because you know guys in prison don't get very good food and some of them look like they could compete.

i was in prison for a couple of years. and the only big guy i met was rich haygood. he played for ther seattle seahawks, nose guard. 6' 350+. he was big when he got there. i lifted while in but none of us knew what we were doing. we tried to get as much pro as we could but it was impossible. too much tv for you dragon. =0)

If you dont count calories then you can't even begin pointing a finger because you dont know north and south. I've done see food diets before, but the only way to be SCIENTIFIC about it is to be SCIENTIFIC about it. Count your stuff.

I count my meals at www.fitday.com using the journal function. Normally I dont look at macros too much unless I am watching bodyfat (good idea), otherwise I count protein and raw calories.

I drink 6 shakes a day to get enough protein. There is always a way and as far as what to eat eat anything with low fat and high protein.

Hell yeah. Before I was going to compete, I gained almost 30lbs of muscle on a cycle of M-1T ! The key was near 500g pro/day and almost 6000 calories.

Like you say, there's always a way. It's called shakes and chicken breasts. I was eating 13 times a day including shakes.

30 pounds of muscle!!! lol

at 500 a week of test 200 in week two-three, i gained 50 lbs on the dot on my max bench press. In the end, i put on nearly 30 lbs. Doesnt seem right.

Maybe we should look into that M1T stuff eh'? And im willing to bet that wasnt 30 pounds of lean muscle either Niclipse, or was it solid LBM? lol

Ok, I also went from 4.8% to 5.9% BF and I'm sure there were a couple lobs of water weight in there. Big whoop. Have the before/after pics to prove it. 187lbs before and a month after the cycle I had only dropped from 218 to 212. I couldn't give two shits if you don't believe me - I was just stating that he has to eat more to make the gains.
