Mass building for shoulders w/o pressing possible??

As some of u already know, I have a weak right shoulder that gets bothered alot. Seems like dips almost always arrivate it and sometimes shoulder press does too. What esle can I do to help build my shoulders w/o risking further injury?? Would incline bench and some rear delt work be enough?? Maybe an occassional Arnold press w/lighter db's once my shoulder is back to norm?? What do u guys think??

IMO you won't have much success building your delts without pressing.

I used to do all that pressing, laterals, bent laterals, upright rows, etc.

Since I switched to a DC type approach (basically all I do for delts is one pressing exercise each workout) my shoulder have made huge improvements. My shoulder have never been so full and round until I switched my program around.

If you want big muscles you are going to need to do heavy compound work.

Josh, try using the smith machine and Hammer Strength equipment. That's what I use for delts and so far... so good.

Easto, whats up my man, could you lay out your shoulder routine for me? if ya don't mind.

bench pressing is a pressing movement that spanks shoulders. add some face pulls or pull-a-parts for rear delts and some side laterals and you set. militarys are not necessarry to have big delts.

Right now I am on a 3 day rotation.

1. Chest/Delts/Tr
2. Back Width/Back Thickness/Bi/Foreamrs
3. Calves/Hammies/Quads

I do ONE shoulder exericse each workout and right now the ones I have are:
Smith Machine - Behind The Neck Press, Military Press
Hammer Strength Shoulder Press

My workouts are as basic as they can be.

i feel stupid when i do face pulls lol . i have never seen anybody do them in my gym, and the odd time i pull too hard and get smacked lol :D

i like using smith machine or hammers aswell for pressing movements with shoulder. they dont crack as hard.

Dont have either of those machines in our gym. Its a small ass gym on a budget. I'll look into that when i move to a bigger place though.

Thanks PB. Always seemed benching(espcially incline) hit my front delts pretty hard. I'll stick to doing that and not worry about not being able to do shoulder press. as far as face pulls or pull aparts, can i do those w/bands?? Or bent side laterals w/bands and/or db's?? WE don't have a cable machine if that is waht u need to use for face pulls and pull a parts. Have any vids of people doing them??

if you use enough weight you not gonna get smacked. i do them on a seated row machine with two small handles. elbows flaired and high and pull to your face.

totally agree..Ive been told that my delts are huge, personally i dont think they are but whatever..

my pint:i used to do the typical shoulder rotuine even with low volume and i had decent shoulders..since doing WSB i very rarely do any overhead pressing..i do side and rear delt work in addtion to heavy benching and my delts have grown so much more on WSB than comapred to the typical BB routine..

Having said that there are plenty of westsiders that do direct overhead pressing and heavy too..i think many people would benefit if the did delts after chest, and you dont necessarily have to do overhead pressing for your delts bodybuilding or not

So will bands and lighter db's suffice for my rear delts?? Our gym doesn't have a cable machine.
I used to do shoulders on their own day, but I've changed my routine and usually do them on chest day, seems to work a bit better, just don't move quite as much weight.

does any one have any videos of pull aparts?? I still don't really know what they are. Are there any other exercises that will pack on mass to the rear delts??

i use the pulldown machine. going to have to try seated rows. how do yo uposition your legs? i was keeping them close and pushed against the edge of the bench (back side).

I use the seated row machine too, I use a rope which is softer if you hit yourself if the face I guess. ;)

Pull aparts are really simple. Grab each end of the band and pull back. If you've ever done a rear delt fly it's the same motion. That's how I've seen them done at least.

its fine lol
if youre working your upper back properly (squeezing the shoulder blades together) your rear elts will get just fine..

nothing wrong with throwing in a few sets of rear DB flyes..
the point is you just dont need to spend more than a few minutes hitting that small of a smuscle

WEll, before I knew much about lifting I never did them at all. SO now i've been playing catch up, so am possibly overdoing it. Trail and error, hopefully i'll figure something out. :)
