millipore .22 bottletop leaking issues

Recently I was filtering using a bottle top millipore .22 with a glass media bottle. Everything was going great... left it sit and came back to my experiment a little later. It was almost filtered thru (about 250 mls total). I noticed the unit was leaking. It seemed to be leaking where the clear plastic met the blue filter casing. It filtered everything thru with very little that had leaked out onto the counter. I've heard of this type of things happening before with the millipore.

Do I need to re filter? I wouldn't see why but I didn't know if this leak had compromised the sample. Any help would be great.

I really don't think u need to refilter. The compromise didn't occur below the filtration , all the gear is being exposed to air anyway till it get's through the filter. If it occurred below the filter and the newly filtered gear was then exposed then u could refilter. How are u transferring from ur media bottle to ur vials anyway? I suppose this is only for personal use so u are probably using the sealed sterile vials.

I used a hand pump that doesn't have a gauge on it. So I probably used a little too much pressure. Used the millipore before this and never had any problems. I have been reading a lot of negative things about them though.

ZapCap is going to be the next one I try. The Millipore has worked 1 out of 4 times I tried it with no problems what so ever. Hopefully I have better luck with the zapcaps

I keep hearing bad things about the millipore systems and nothing but great reviews of the Zapcap. I just received a few whatman zapcaps so I'll update this with my thoughts on them

Docdray, would this be the one to use in your opinion? A sterile product is my concern. I'd stick with .22 whatman push for hours syringe filters, but I don't look forward to anything like that.

That's the one I ordered. Sterility is a function of filtration and your technique. Any filter .2um will sterilize the solution but whether it remains sterile is dependent on you

Does it come with the bottom container to catch the oils? And if so, can you recommend a way of separating the two when done filtering so the final product isn't exposed to air, contaminants, etc.,? I'd love to have a sterile "catching container" (lol! Forgive my "science") that basically catches the now sterile oil, that I could put a 20g pin in through a rubber stopper, and use a 60ml syringe to draw it out, then replace needle, and fill sterile vials. Thanks again as always!
