my calfs suck

partially because i am really tall, partially because i have horrible calf genetics, and partially, probably, because i just havent figured out how to get them bigger. my thighs are in decent shape for my stats but my calfs are way small. i've tried everything: high weight low reps, low weight high reps, 3x a week, 1x a week, etc. i suspect part of the problem may be, that i go hiking at least 1x/week so they get the wrong kind of workout. any tips on building calfs.
 
Try some german volume training. That is 10 sets of 1o reps with 45 second rest intevals. Make shure to include standing exercises for your gastrocnemius and seated calf raises for your soleus. You can also do work on your tibialis anterior, which in turn will give your lower leg a broader appearance.
 
When doing standing calf raises, does your heel touch the floor? I hate when I see people doing partial reps for calfs and think they are king cock.
 
i have the same problem, seated calf raises have been making huge differences for me..might try those
 
Make sure you do both seated and standing calf raises.

They hit different parts of the calf, and you need to develop both for a good look.

That's what I read somewhere, anyway. ;)
 
a friend just taught me a good way. he said do seated and standing and seated toe press. But keep switching it up so that your doing high reps, low reps, drop sets, pause sets, and do calves about twice a week this way. You don't have to do all 3 exercises each of those 2 days you work the calves though. But doing it this way seemed to work for him, and i'm gonna give it a try once this storm ends and the gym opens up.
 
i tried 6 sets of 8 reps with a high weight with seated and standing calf raises last week, and my calves still burn, i can definaty see a difference
