my hips cannot take the heavy squats anymore:( -- i squatted heavy yesterday and am in alot of pain today-- i usually ignore it but can no longer do that --

going to start doing my squats last using lighter weight:( -- the years of abuse are starting to catch me unfortunatley--

will incorperate more front squats and shit like that-- i will still squat -- can never get away from them but 600 lbs is not in the cards for right now--

will be staying in the 315 to 405 range -- see how i feel-- doing them last should help i hope

If you squat wide, move your stance in bro. That will give your hips a break.

You could also look into buying a pair of powerlifting briefs. They're only about $50-$60 usually, and they'll do wonders for protecting your hips on heavy squats.

yup i do squat wide--

slobber, where can i get the pants-- is there a site i can check them out on

also if you have any powerlifting buddies with some hand me down squat suits you could cut the top half off for some homemade briefs

Yeah house, I know the feeling.......and I'm only 18. My right hip is hurting so bad right now from last thursday that I can barely lift my leg, and my knees feel like I'm an old man. This sucks. I'm seriously contemplating a week or two off of legs, just to recover, and then starting back with a lighter weight.

House, this may be a stupid question, but do you stretch your IT band prior/during warmups, etc? Had hip problems (more specifically hip pointers and flexors) for a year or so during f-ball, PT fixed me up pretty good with IT and ADD/ABD stretches too. Just a thought.

I just started squatting wider to help me with my mma training. I need to get my hips stronger for kicks. It certainly does take some getting use to when you're use to a narrower stance.:)

Actually, I've always heard it is better to stretch post workout, and just use several small warmup sets to get loose. Now, I don't follow my own advice on this one, but all the research I've seen says that stretching actually lowers strength in the muscle(s) targeted.

I guess I should have been more specific. I prefer very light, static stretching preworkout and much more dynamic either during working sets and/or postworkout. By dyanmic, I don't mean bouncing or "herky-jerky" movements but streching a position to a certain point for a specific count, rest 3-5 secs, then stretch past that last point for a count, etc, etc. Not sure I've ever experienced less strength from stretching though....would be a good self-experiment, or a quick road to hurting myself, lol.
