well i got a little talk today at the gym..nothing major but someone came over to me and said people have been complaining about the noise because i let the bar drop on the pins when doing rack pulls or pin presses..how have you guys handled this in the past? im guessing im being watched now because im rough on the equipment? i get odd looks carrying boards in lol.. etc

I don't mind the noise from the racks.. It's the fools that drop the dumbbells on the floor after doing flat or incline bench that really annoy me. Then they get up and think they're the shit because they just pushed 50 lbs of weight.

i changed gyms when this became a problem , we were told it made to much noise when we deadlifted so a half dozen people changed gyms . if i cant train like i want/need to i dont want to be there .

i agree 1000% . i work out with a 40 year old who weighs 165 pounds soaking wet and we do dbs last after heavy benches and he can use and sit up with the 100s . why the hel, cant a 20 year old who weighs 200 plus sit up with the 70s . BECAUSE THEY ARE TO FREAKING LAZY TO THATS WHY .

i agree with dropping the dbells as well.. i drop them from a low point i do not throw them off me so that they go half way across the gym!!!

I think the "kids" at my gym drop the weight for just the opposite reason. They like the attention... one day though I'd love to walk over drop a couple of the 100's right next to them.

I carry boards in too, well wood blocks actually. Hahahha. Try to be easy on the equipment. Honestly nobody wants loose dumbbells and bent equipment. Ronnie throws his dumbbells, but he also buys his own. If the noise does not cause damage to equipment, tell them to wear ear plugs and fuck off.

i havent used bells in awhile.. .well im a liar lately any bell work is done for reps 8-12 so there is no need for me to drop them...i cant help it if the bar bends from all the weight :) im not hard on the equipment i was just thinking out loud what must be going throught this guys mind..shit happens when you lift heavy occassionally the bar slips when doing front squats i dont think thats being rough im not dropping it on purpose..but when ever weight slams it causes everyone to look..

I agree. You are doing nothing wrong then. People who go to the gym, and own gyms should not if they dont understand that. They are just jelious of you because they know they could never push themselves as hard as you, and they will never be as dedicated either because they are losers, and should waste time somewhere else.

the guy was nice he didnt say DONT do it..i just found it odd the i was being noisy..lol

BB, you're scaring the fitness types. When this happened at the rec at my school (which MY fucking money is paying for me to use as I please) I finally just left and started lifting in another weightroom I had access to.

Reading through y'alls posts made me laugh...I work at a gym and it always scares the shit outta me when I'm sitting behind the front desk and some dumbass drops the stupid 50s on the floor...At that point, I hafta walk over there and say some smartass comment about how I can use that much for DB presses and still am able to control them...they hate that from a girl...my boss is a powerlifter and he understands that the serious PLs make lots of noise...so when he bought the gym he actually changed the "Women's Room" into the heavy room (or the Big Boy Room, as one of my co-workers likes to call it)...That way it accomodates all types of members without much dischord over the noise levels...Although there are some complaints from the yoga instructor that sometimes the guys in the Heavy Room blare their music just a li'l too loud...oh well...anyway, I was bored and thought I'd respond =)

find another gym. I use to go to ballys and I had that problem. They didnt like big guys scareing 45 yr olds doing their pushups and treadmills. I left and now Im in NY sports club. Its great thier. King Kamali works out there all the time, and he pretty fucking loud. Every rep he screams or hisses air out. No one has problems.

Im not gonna lie. I drop dumbbells. Not flagrantly such as to just toss them but shit, after a nice heavy ass set of db presses, espeically for delts as your sitting pretty much vertically, im content with just dropping the bitches. We have rubber padded type floors though.

droping dbs is fine as long as they land flat so they dont bend. and make sure some dingle berry in flip flops is not standing there watching you (you know the type)
