question about hack squats

here's my question...will hack squats do as much for you as regular squats?? my situation is that i have a bad right knee and i can't do regular squats with heavy weight, i have been doing regular squats with very light weight but i think i could do better with hack squats. i am also doing full sets of leg presses and calf lifts and trying some standing leg curls and leg extentions. will all of this be enough or are the regular squats a must? any input or suggestions are appreciated. thanks in advance...

if you have a bad knee...recupperate and yes..it will take a very long time. I suggest not doing them heavy squats for a while.

Squat is a must.
leg presses and other leg works can only make your legs grow to an extend and poof

try wraps

What exactly is the nature of the injury? When did it occur? What type of treatment are you administering for it, etc.?

actually it is an old football injury that happened back in 1989(torn ligament), the doctor wanted to do surgery on it then and i declined (they messed up and showed me a knee surgery and what they would be doing). the doctor i am now using says that the ligament looks ok but i have some cartlige(not sure how to spell it) trying to push out on the side of the knee when i put too much pressure on it, he's got me taking celebrex and it is helping some but if i move just right it swells back up. so far all of the exercises i listed are not hurting it yet, but i can start to feel the pressure when doing regular squats and don't really want to push my luck. i just recently started to do more leg excercise because i know it is necessary but like i said i i don't want to push my luck. so whatever the overall opinion here happens to be is what i will try. thanks for any responses!

If your knees are bad then hack squats will not necessarily do them any favors--get some therapy, heal up and use knee wraps when squatting.

thanks guys for the input, i think i am going to get myself some knee wrap and maybe some elbow sleeves for some extra support. does anybody know if some glucosamine would be of any help for bad joints?

Gluco will help bad joint but I wouldn't expect it to work miracles on your knee.

yeah, my knee is pretty much beyond dlucosamine but i am hoping my elbow might see some improvement from it. my right elbow actually prevents me from using all of the weight i can on skull crushers and hammer curls and it also affects my standing curls. maybe between the glucosamine and the elbow brace i can use heavier weight. thanks guys!

you are never to far beyond glucosamine. I'm living proof. I have no lateral meniscus and I use glucosamine, chondrotin, and MSM, it helps with swelling I'd say use that over celabrex. My advise it get of the celebrex and get 800mg Ibeprofen instead or just drop an asprin. My ortho told me yes they work but in the long run are more harmful to the body. Not saying I haven't used it I've used them all just only when I have to. Just my opinion. I legpress 7-8 plates for 3x20 and 225-275 for 3-5x20 and do a lot of other stuff and I keep the swelling at a minimum. In my experience you just have to suck it up keep training or get the surgery to correct it and then keep training hard, just don't be dumb and keep from going past or even to 90 degrees on squat and press keep it about just under that. I have 30' legs and have had 5 knee surgeries so I have some expereince with coming back. Just keep on working hard and oh ya ice the crap out of it after every workout whether upper body or lower body.
