Question on Bench Press style...

At one time or another someone posted a link to a video showing them bench pressing a pretty large amount of weight. But, looking at the video I noticed that they were arching thier back so much that it was turning a Bench Press into a Dip. They were arching so much that they could proly see thier poop chute too. I was really impressed at the poundage at first then I thought "Well, damn. I think anyone can do dips with more weight than they can bench" Shit, I know I can. I mean I can do dips for reps with bodyweight + 90# so for me that's around 310 lbs. But, there ain't no way in hell I can bench that without completely screwing up a shoulder, etc.

So, shouldn't that extreme arching bench press be renamed the 'lying dip'?

if you are in a contest you use every legal advantage available including shirts and arching . or you could prefer to lose;)

Well said dawg. Those guys will likely screw up a back before it's all said and done though, if they do that consistently.

Dawg is right if your in a contest, but as far as it being a "real press" that consist of proper form, i would say no.
