Insane_Man said:haha reminds me of my buddy who can bench like 300 on a good day saying that the shirted guys doing over 1000 doesnt count.
roccodart440 said:???? Well, To some degree it doesn't. If I told you I could bench 800pounds with my shirt and you asked, what can you do raw? And my reply was "about 500" Would you be as impressed?
I'm glad Scott Mendelson has the record now. He is a true strongman.
I've become very amused by guys that can match or better outbench me in a shirt that I can smoke RAW.
Insane_Man said:I agree that a massive raw bench is very impressive. I can also see the advantages of a shirt, as the bench press is kind of an unnatural movement for the body. For some more tha others.
roccodart440 said:Shirts were originally invented as protecxtion for lifters. specifically for the shoulders. This has clearly changed. THe ting about shirts that makes the movement unnatural is the fact that if the shirt exceeds the strength of the lifter y too much (which is notrmally the case) you have to go out of your normal range to touch. (specifically the stomach) That's why you sometimes see people "dump "the weight.
blackbeard said:hmmm not really
dumping the weight is nothing more than the wrists over the elbows
some shirts are grooved to touch only the stomach-if you go any higher you are fighting against the shirt
