Reverse-Grip Bench Press? Powerlifters?

I'm thinking this is mostly a powerlifter's exercise as I have only seen it used by a powerlifter at a previous gym and mentioned in passing in a couple articles about powerlifting. Just for a change today, I decided to try this exercise. It seemed like a very strange movement. It was hard for me to tell what it was working and why it would be used. What strengths is the movement supposed to take advantage of? What weakness(es) is it supposed to help overcome? Where should you feel this movement the most? Any knowledgable feedback about this exercise would be appreciated.

it really blast the triceps and front delts . which should benefit all strength athletes

My buddy always benches that way, and he's massive. He weighs 245 and puts up 420 reverse grip, with his feet up on the bench.
