severe knee pain after squatting 5 plates (video)

Sounds like Patella tendonitis...It can happen at anytime even if your knee felt healthy up until that point. It can last several days, weeks and even years. Most of the time meds, Physical therapy don't really help all that much. Rest it for a few weeks and see what happens. It sucks for sure..I had the same issue after squatting heavy and its been about 10 months...it's better but still aches/hurts most of the time.

That was a heavy squat op, but it would get flagged at a comp every time. Keep recording your lifts to compare them to lifts that get green lighted if you intend to compete. At what body weight did you perform that squat?

legs need to be trained at FULL rom, not the 3inch bullshit most guys do. go light, 15+ repetitions on every set an forget about heavy stuff, legs need lots of pump work, blood going in. whenever you see a guy doing 8 plates legpress each side = guaranteed he looks like shit and doesnt know much. just facts

fuck i JUST saw the OP video, my legs and back HURT from just watching it

1 thing i know: one will NEVER have good strong and healthy legs by training them like this

ever notice how girls who train have super thick quads and superb legs, mostly better then guys who are 3x their size? ever notice how these girls train? they train light and DEEP, ass to grass, perfect form, not too heavy, 15-20reps on each set. 6-7 exercises, lots of drop en supersets, burn the fuckers down. thats why they have superb legs

also OP, it's well established that partial reps are bad for the knees, i would have figured that someone using steroids would at the very least know how to squat with proper form by now.

If i were you, I would reset the weight and get comfortable with being in the hole.

Here's a vid with tom platz squatting 500 for 23 reps, as you can see he goes ALL THE WAY DOWN every single rep. Do you hear him complaining about his knees? No, because he knows how to fucking squat.

lol, you clearly don't know much skippy...

Corssfit yeah, but powerlifting is about as manly as it gets.

He said best ways to get hurt nothing manly about that bodybuilding at least you look manly not big fat strong.... and i am willing ti bet he knows alot more than you

All those guys are gonna pay for it when they are older believe that.... you think they are gonna say they have pain? lol

Well there are injuries in every sport (although powerlifting and weightlifting in general have some of the lowest injury rates of any sport). And honestly, i do not believe that everyone who lifts heavy throughout their life is going to end up in pain. Do you think that it is ONLY the muscles that adapt? No, every supportive ligament and connective tissue also adapts over time, and this pays off in the long run. If anything, I would say the number one way to keep someone out of a nursing home when they are older is to teach them how to squat and deadlift with good form and with increasingly heavier weight. Here's another fantastic example, if lifting heavy causes injuries then explain this? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KO6X6j0OGQQ

Bottom line: Lifting heavy does NOT cause injuries. Lifting heavy with shit form and partial range of motion does.

Well not everyone wants to powerlift i just wanna look like i lift alot lol alot more chance injury lifting huge amounts of weight

I'm not bashing you or any other bodybuilder. I respect bodybuilders just as much as powerlifters and other athletes (except crossfit, lol). My only issue was people saying that you WILL, WITHOUT A DOUBT, injure yourself by lifting heavy.

lifting heavy implies perfect form but just heavier weights

on paper

in real life it implies dudes lifting WAY heavier then they can so they sacrifice good form and do it shitty

VERY few heavy lifters who do it well and look good, all the gyms i have been i see dudes lifting WAY too heavy and looking pretty crappy

lifting heavy as it implies on paper is perfect, too bad VERY few do it like that

The weight is toooooo heavy my friend. I watched the video and from what I see your knees are moving inward as you push up which is a HUGE no no. They also move out and back in again. You are going to have issues if you keep doing this.

The knees should be inline with the toes at ALL time and remain inline. They should also not move out past your toes. And the bar should remain over your heels at all times. This is a tricky exercise as if your stance isnt correct or you dont lower into the pocket correctly you will feel like the weight is going to pull you backwards.

Do your self a favor and lighten the weight focus on form and start increasing the weight again.

And I see some mention of ass to grass on squats. That is totally unnecessary and not the correct way to do a squat as once you get to a certain point, around parallel the tension shifts from your quads to your knees, NOT what you want. Full range of motion means the length that the intended muscle group can travel while maintaining tension NOT how far you can physically move during the movement.

it's unfortunate that most people now a days lift with their ego and not proper form. I see it all the time too when i am forced to train in commercial gyms; some 160lb kid trying to squat 150lbs more than his actual max because he wants to "look cool" and show off to the girl next to him. The human body is incredibly adaptive, i know because i spent YEARS mastering the technique, and i can handle very heavy weights with out breaking form. Unfortunately, most people don't have the discipline or patience now a days to learn.

most twinks in the gyms i train lift more then me and at the same time look 27x more SHIT then me. might be a correlation there, not sure lmao

injuries galore, torn shoulders and always in pain, ofcourse they dont have discipline or respect for the sport OR the body but its not because the sport is shitty, its because THEY are shitty and dont know jack and just train indeed with their egos. OP this is not just about you so dont think we are ripping you a new one here (if you keep the technioque you will rip urself plenty one ones soon) but this is a general gripe i have with dudes training. you will almost NEVER see a girl train like this and for ego and whatayaknow girls look better then most guys

I used to do the "three in squat" thing and killed my knees. Now my ass touches my calves, can't do as heavy weight, but no knee or back issues.

When your at my gym can u please train me? U sound like a know it all, sounds like u train with woman yourself bro

i do train with a girl, very good. best training there is, they dont ego lift and do exercises to a T, especially legs which us guys skimp on so training with a girl I HIGHLY recommend

i dont know it all, nor do i say i do but i do know a lot and i coach people for years now and train myself for 15+ last yrs in the gym so i do know what i am talking about
