Skullcrushers bad for joints

Hi peeps, currently got upto 43kgx6 skullcrushers which im very pleased about

Ok the bad thing about this is that it destroys my elbows for the next 3 days

Ive always had amazing growth on the triceps from this exercise and now it seems I can no longer do it

Is this a common thing? Or is it just me, how much are you skullcrushing? Did you have to stop just like me because it was too harsh on the elbows? What do you do now instead? Im considering doing close grip bench press and/or cable pushdowns but I got a feeling it wont be as good :(

LMK your thoughts, many thanks

how narrow is your grip? You might widen it out a bit. Get some sort of joint support supp. It makes a difference for me. My elboys always use to hurt after deads, but went a way after a while. You always have the option to work through it and let your body adjust or lay off a while and let it repair itself.

use a lighter wieght and more reps
get some neoprene sleeves and a liniment

if that doesnt help then dont do them-you cant lift if you're joints are sore/aching

skull crushers are pretty hard on the elbows. you'll probably find there are quite a few people around who just won't do them anymore because of joint pain.

Either back the weight off a bit as BB said, or try something else for a while to let your joints recover. Close grip bench is pretty sweet, as is reverse grip.

Look after your body dude, no point getting a serious injury in the pursuit of bigger arms

This is what I do. The sleeves that is. I am able to go heavy again. Warm up real good on this excercise in-particular

Skulls fuck my elbows up like none other. If I go above 150 or so it feels like my elbows are going to blow out. Warm ups definitely help and higher reps for sure. I'll have to look into some of those sleeves.

I gave them up about two years ago. Do them long enough, and their is a good shot you will give them up as well, lol.

I had to stop doing them after I hurt my elbow while doing a light warmup set of them. Now, I try and find variations to do instead. No exercise should ever "hurt" your joints to the point where you can't do anything for a few days. In my case, I couldn't do any pressing movement for 2 weeks.

Gumbo

i gave em up.when you get good and heavy the ole elbows say no go!when i do them rarely i go lighter and use a decline bench.the angle seems to help .i also agre with everybody else cg works good if you do it right nice tight to the body with the arms let the tri do the work.

I find cg bench is hard to hit the tris, i get A LOT less DOMS the next day compared to some hardcore sets of skullcrushers

I have been keeping my arms to the sides being very strick with a narrow grip but still cant blast the tris it seems :(

i have found that i really like the v-bar pushdowns and doing the pushdowns with the rope and doing a full extension at the end is really good for the tris. i usually do about 120 lbs. on the skulls and luckily i haven't hit the point where it hurts too bad to do them, but if i do i'll try something else. the close grip bench press doesn't seem to hit the tris very well to me so i don't do them as much.

Its either the form, or the structure of ur tendons. Ive been doing 135 for 20, and going as high as 200 for 6-7 with no pain whatsoever. But i find close grip benches very painful and rarely do them.

Yup I had to stop them, well I might go really light for some sets just because I love the movement but nothing really heavy, going to accupuncture and that has helped so I'm hoping I'll be able to do them soon again. Also Im using a gel that was on prescription before, and that helps also.

But Close grip bench is good, my tri'c still grow :)

same here. bro

CG wasn't my bestfriend at all

hmmm...I could suggest adding your weights up for presses if you think or feel that your tri isn't getting bombed enough

rack presses are always fun to tackle with

heavy pullovers IS a big help too

You shouldn't be doing them that close anyway. Move your hands out.

About how many inches apart?I've broke my wrist before so I think it's due to that as apose to form. But I'm all ears.

You can be as a couple inches from the end of the knurling if you need to. when i go wider i like to tuck the elbows more, i seem to hit my tris more that way.
