Squat Last?

Does anyone place squats last (or near the end) in their leg workout? I think I might give this a shot today and see how my legs feel after. I might blast them with Leg Extensions and Hack Squats first, or maybe some Leg Press.

Any ideas? I am leaving in 20 mins for the gym, BTW :D

I would not. Rather do the best exercise first so i can get the most from it. But i usually do calves before.

I always do squats first just because they require everything you've got. Squats indirectly work the entire body--you will get more benefit out of squats and deads than you will get from any other exercise.

unless you are doing the pre-exaustion routine then squats, deads and bench should be first in the respective routines.

I usually do squats first, simply b/c they take so much effort and energy out of me. I've tried doing them last, and I wasn't able to get a full effort out of them.

I killed my quads on some leg extension (6 sets) then I went to Squats. I was only able to get 405 twice ... Bad for the ego, but I'll see how the legs feel tomorrow. I had a good workout today, sometimes if feels awesome to change things up once and a while as well.

405!!!??? Bad for the ego??? I'm still trying to do reps with over 315lbs. I have been stuck at 315 for 6-8 reps. Do you have any suggestions to get through this plateau?

lol.... im still using 225 for 10 reps.. i dont like going heavier then that... kinda intimidating and dont wana look like a human pancake. i also put 100 on each side of the hack squat machine, 124kg on teh leg press, 63 on teh extensions and about 36 on the curls's

I like to do squats first. Nothing less than 400lbs. is acceptable. then i like to superset leg extensions and ham curls. Almost always sends me to the bathroom feeling like i have to throw up. That is how i know i got a good workout!

try keeping your reps between 15 and 20.

how many sets are you doing?

I always start my workouts with the biggest lifts, then taper down towards the end. It goes with my priorities. I don't want to be exhausted when it counts.

This is my normal leg routine, however I will be switching to the new routine you gave me.
Squats
135X12, 185X10, 225X5, 285X6, 315X6
Hack Squats(this is more like a squat machine at my gym)
245X12, 335X10, 385X6, 385X6
SLDL's
135X10, 185X10, 225X10, 255X10
Lying Hamstring Curls
90X12, 130X10, 160X8

if you'll drop the 285 x 6 and just hit a 275 for a single or dbl then go to your work set you prolly move up pretty quickly. also do the bar for several before 135 and drop the 185 set. i am a believer in plenty of warm ups but not doing work sets with lighter weights that tire you out. how long of a break between sets you taking? make sure you are fully recovered before you do another set. not unusual for me to take 15 min between sets or longer if i am going heavy with singles and dbls.

I follow a DC-style program and have been doing squats last. After a single set of heavy rest-paused, high rep squats, all I can think about is curling up in a corner and dying.

Moving on to hacks, leg presses, etc. afterwards just isn't realistic to me.
