PW I consume 50g whey OptmumProComplex mixed with dextrose/creatine supplement. I find this simple sugar works great compared to having oatmeal after a workout..
I'm looking for an effective simple sugar carb source- food type(you can buy in a grocery), not dextrose or a supplement. I've thought of fruits, but I've heard they are not as effective.

any suggestions?

i heard eating an orange after a workout is good.

honestly my post workout is this 45 grams of protein\75 grams of carbs(dex) \10grams of creatine.

Just curious, why are you trying to avoid a supp? Cost factor or?? Cuz there are a few really solid PWO supps out there you could use.

I've known folks who have used grapes and apples but I'm not suggesting that, just what I've heard.

cost more than anything... not props to cell tech...but something similiar in composition works excellent..their stuff works for me, but way overpriced/hyped.

I, along with several other friends, use Nutrex's Virtago CGL (fruit punch, NOT the orange) during contest prep. I'm using now just two weeks from a show during both PWO and for some carb loading. Don't know how the price compares, not familiar CT, here it runs ~$45. The CGL mixes well, tastes good, and def provides a boost. 60g carbs, no sugar, good stuff. But if you're looking for the simple-sugar specifically, maybe not the way to go but could be worth a look-see. IMO.

I used to drink 16oz of apple juice w/creatine and then my 30-40gr protein shake after my workouts for some time and it seems to work alright 4 me.

Go to your local bulk food store and buy your dextrose there. It will be cheap than using any food post workout.

But if you insist on using food, I would pick some fruit.

Bananas are the best choice because they have the least amount of fructose which will not be beneficial to you. It is 80% glucose so have a few of them instead of any other fruit.
