Swimming for Cardio instead of Running

I've heard a lot about the benefits of swimming over running or biking. Do you think I can replace my elliptical training with swimming and still be able to lose fat effectively? Thanks for your reponses

YES. I do some swimming to cross train so that I am not always running everyday. Your joints will thank you and it is harder than running.

swimming is supposedly one of the best things you can do for cardio, plus its easy on the joints

I should also add that if you monitor your heart rate during cardio it will be around 14 beats per minute lower than if you were to do the same work on land. So if you usually try to keep your HR around 140bpm then when you are swimming you will want to keep it around 126 bpm.

swimming is a great way of losing fat.

i've been swimming for only four years, and was really lean, fat% of 4%. that was 2yrs ago, now i'm still reasonably lean, but swimming is the way to go.

good for ur joints, and gets u really lean.

btw: if i add a pic i get the message that there are problems with the database??
would like to add a pic of me when i swum...

Swimming is so freakin hard. I sink like a rock, while all these 500 pound whales are swimming by me on their backs and laughing and shit at me. I'ts horrible.

Swimming doesn't mean create stroking. You have to do consistent freestyle swimming to really see a result. I was a Waterpolo player in school. It's kick ass cardio
