Think this med kills my strength?

Dlove

Product of Test
The doc has raised my dose of klonopin to 4mg's a day. Truthfully I really dont think I need this med anymore. I got it prescribed about 7 yrs. ago when I was 22 and owned a small cell phone store. My BP was high and the job was very stressful. These benzodiazepams are pretty strong and im really not feeling them anymore. I think if I stop taking them my strength will take off in the gym. My diet is better, and Im making small gains naturally right now but just not seeing much on the strength side.

Anyone else take benzo's and train hard? Think their counterproductive to training?

Are you taking it for Lennox-Gastaut Syndrome (a severe form of epilepsy) or seizures or something else?

I don't know much about your medication, but based on what I am seeing, I don't see any reason to believe that it has significantly and directly limited your gains at the gym and I don't see any reason why your strength would take off if you were to discontinue the medication. Why do you believe that Klonopin limits your gains, or are you just asking if it might?

Very curious what you are taking the medicine for.

the answer imo is yes. i am not a doc and i do not take those types of meds but they are antianxiety and muscle relaxers etc. aren't they. seems like they would slow everything down a bit.

Well, the drug is a CNS depressent, so there could be an issue, but I'm not totally convinced. I personally take a CNS stimulant and I find my medication of no aid in developing my CNS system to adapt to increasing loads. So I'm not personally convinced, but I do agree there there is a possibility of a link.

Regardless, we really need to go back to the core question: does the medication help Dlove with his medical issue. I've heard a lot of excuses about why somebody stopped taking their seizure medication, all the while the person having more seizures when off of the medication, wrecking havoc on their own life and affecting others. But I'm not saying that is Dlove's situation. I don't even know what he takes the medication for as of yet.

dlove,

yes i do. bro that is the only issue i can help with. i believe your strength will take off in the gym if you stopped taking the meds. only a doc could tell you whether to stop taking the meds and i bet you know that. good luck with it.

mranak,

that was not his core question. a doc would need to answer the question you present. none of us should go there imo.

Well Mranak Im taking it truthfully man to help my tension. The thing is Benzodiazepams stop working as well after a while. They do still chill me out.

I don't have seizures or any problems with the adrenal gland blood tests were just done. I iniatially got it by convincing my doc i needed it at the time i partied too much. Now that I just workout and live a healthy lifestyle i don't need this stuff especially at the dose they got me on.

I do believe it should definitely help my strength in the gym. The medicine is an antianxiety which relaxes all your muscles and kinda puts you in lala land.

4mg/d is a lot.

My friend is on 8mg's a day. I think they made a mistake cause he definitely can't workout he's a walkin zombie. The PDR i think says 6mg's is the highest and thats for people with severe seizures.

If you got it for tension, and you think you might not need it, then I recommend you come off of it (or maybe just wean yourself off it it). And no, I'm not a doctor, but I'm using common sense and probably opening my mouth when I should keep it shut. Unless you put yourself or others at risk from trying to go without it, then wean yourself off and see what happens. You can always go back onto the medicine, right?

Kind of confused why your doc raised your dose.

Is your friend taking it for the same reason as you? Same or different doctor?

See your doctor and talk to him about weening yourself off the meds, we can give advice on training but a doctor should be consulted about this issue. I have serious problems with some of these doctors that seem to be all to happy to prescribe meds for what ails us. Lifestyle changes are often a better way to health, regardless still consult a doctor on this one, maybe one who is not a drug pusher.

If the doctor insists that he needs to stay on that med, then either there is a significant part of the story we don't know or..... he needs to get a second opinion from another physician.

The doc doesn't care if I come off. Medically I do not need it. Truthfully unless you suffer from seizures or your real hyper and mean you don't need benzo's. My doc is going to start a weaning process. I see him on the 15th.

Mrnak, my friend taking the 8mg's kinda needs to be on it. He's a boxer with a nasty ass temper not a good mix. He want's to cut back to get back into boxing. These med's are hard to get often sold as street drugs. I really don't recommend them to anyone only for a short period of time if really needed.

absolutley yes I think you should make better gains, its basically a depressant which calms you and relaxes your body making it counter productive. The only thing is you say youv been taking this for 7 years so you might have a such a tolerance to it that it isnt holding you back and your body is functioning normally. Either way why take something like that if you dont need it, talk to your doc and get some opinions first. BTW if youv been taking it that long dont just come off. ANd good luck

Are you saying that he is taking the medicine for anger management? Wrong medication for that, IMHO. He needs a good psychiatrist. Depressing the CNS system is not an appropriate long-term solution to anger management, IMHO.

Yeah he is unfortunately. He doctor shops and gets all kinds of med's it suck he has an addiction problem. Your right he should be in counseling and some kind of a mood stabilizer he can't abuse. He's got a natural talent in boxing just being pissed away. Truthfully we barely talk anymore. I had to cut all my friends out that abuse drugs and alcohol. I don't need that enviornment. Thing that sucks is i only know one sober friend but he lives 3 hrs away. Up till 3 yrs. ago I was a partier but I was sick and tired of looking and feeling like shit. As well as having no carreer path. So I dove into BBing something i alway's adored but never took serious. Diet and training has completely helped me get my life back. Now it's time to get off these med's. Im also on 100mg's of Atenelol BP medicine. I don't need that much. When it was prescribed 4 yrs ago I drank and ate like shit. I feel great now and think i can get off that. These fucking Doctor's these day's are pushers the more med's they push the more vacations they get, nice huh?

That's great that you cleaned up and found a good direction. Yeah, sucks about the friend thing, but find some nice girls to fuck and you won't feel lonely. :D

that is a VERY high dose for just tension. the max dose of klonipin is 10mg/day...and that's for those with seizure disorder. I don't know if it'll make you weaker...but it sure does make you hungry!!! seriously, if you've been on it for 7 years..you'll need to be tapered off it over a period of 2-3 months. I was on it for maybe one year at 2mg/day..and I had MAJOR withdrawal symptoms. the wrost of which was insomnia..I think I only slept an hour/day when I came of it completely...that lasted almost 3 weeks..not to mention the rebound anxiety..that was bad, heartburn....It was terrible...seriously, look at coming off that med.

Im starting my wean down on the 14th when i see the doc. Great so my sleep is gonna be effected. Guess ill have to be tapping into the old lady till i fall asleep, lol. I get terrible itching now im wondering if it's from the klonopin. This stuff sucks. No more med's for me.

if you don't need it then don't take it. that is a good rule of thumb. i think too many people over-medicate themselves whether it is rec drugs or prescription or otc.
