I was wondering does anyone have a slight shoulder pain doing your first heavy set of benches and after that you dont feel the pain anymore on subsequent sets? Im right hand dominant and my left shoulder upper part hurts on my frist heavy set could it be my rotator cuff being weak and I need to work them? I mean my 3rd set I dont feel the pain anymore. Sometimes it hurts sometimes it does not thats the odd thing.

you need to get them warm before you go heavy.what your sayin sounds like it just aint warm.do some cuff work.you can find the excercises at family dr.com or web md .com or some shit like that.somebody in here has a link to it.make sure you warm up and that should take care of it.

Same thing here...I( solved it by stretching adn by doing a warm up routine before my sets. So bascially do as pretty ricky and AngryMuscles suggested and it will help.

O...and let me know if you experience this too:

If you warm up with no weights it hurts big time but when you use some small amount of weight it doesn't hurt at all....

TPH76, no it does not hurt using no weight I actually start with no weight then do 95, 115, 135 then go to my heaviest set 225 and stay there for like 3 to 5 sets. I guess I better do more 135 more warm ups then and some rotator cuff stuff thanks for the response.

OK...goodluck! Hope it works for you as well.

just an update seems when my body is colder than normal my left shoulder hurts more when I start off on the bench now. Today for example I had a hard time with the bar itself, but as I progressed slowly on the weight it got better and better this time I did 135 for 2 sets instead of my one set and jumped into 225 and didnt feel so bad. I felt as my shoulder and body in general got warming there was less pain there dont know if this is good or bad.

i wear a jacket on bench (and back) days. i wear it on my walk to the gym, during warm ups, and initial sets (until i get too hot). helps a bit.

I've had shoulder problems for the past 2 years and the best advice is to warm them up first and spend a good 10 mins doing cuff exercises before and after a work out. Wider grip on flat bench helped me out as well. I'm currently taking 200mgs/day of Celebrex to reduce inflamation.
