training for mma

old timer

brazilian jiu-jitsu guy
if you are planning to do hardcore mma(mixed martial arts) and practice everyday, you can't really train to get big. you'd burn too many calories.
just fyi for guys who think they can do both hardcore.....you have to either lessen your training in mma or weights to do good with the other.

also, i think brazilian jiu-jitsu is one of the best martial arts to know when confronted in a street fight(as well as kickboxing-muay thai).

anybody disagrees?

does anyone think that KARATE or TAE KWON DO is effective in the streets? hahahahahaha.

I got a black belt in Tae Kwon Do and it is the biggest waste of money I ever spent lol. I recently started BJJ training and love it. It really is lethal in every sense of the word. If you come at someone with a balanced standup game and a takedown game, you are going to destroy the average person lol.

Also, it would surely be awful tough to get the best of both worlds, u would really have to eat like a hawk.

I train twice a week with a buddy of mine who has been in it for 2 years. We go 5 mins on, 2 mins off for 2 hours straight and by the end of 2 hours we are just dead tired. I gotta think we are burning 2 or 3000 calories in those sessions. What do you think?

well actually..

even 2 sessions a week is pretty harsh when trying to build muscle. i would just do 1 session, yet shadow box/punching bag and practice your shoot-ins(the lunge before the takedowns) every other day.

you cant get big? bullshit. i train a couple of mma guys and they are freakin swole. have you watched the ufc? or pride? some of those guys are heavily muscled.

as far as burning too many calories there is a solution for that. its called food.

totally agree bro.

i guess so..but it's a matter of dedication. yeah sure if you have the food readily available and ofcourse plan things out...sure you can accomplish that , no doubt about that bro.

so you more of a grappler or striker?

i love the ground.

my takedowns are great and so is my ground technique(or so people say),...but my striking is kinda lagging. any advise on what type of stand up martial art should i do? for stand up i just do some boxing accompanied with some muay thai kicks..that's all.

any advise?

well....

as far as personal experience...i've tried going hardcore on the mma and the weights before.....it hurts. all my joints(back, neck, elbows.....) got sore and i didn't have good training weight days since i had to lessen the weight because my muscles were fatigued.

well...so the only solution is to build up to the weights and put the ego aside.

So are you sayiong you aren't dedicated or can't plan things out. Sorry bro, but that is what being hardcore is about. Doing whatever it takes to get to where you want to be!

I'm better at ground too but i've just started. I'm good defensively more than offensively, but then again im still very new to it.

I think both can be accomplished, as was pointed out look at the UFC guys. They just train right.

I am cutting so the cardio from it is awesome.

yeah that's true.

:Pump: yeah i agree on that too. i guess in the case of taking the aas...that will give you the strength and motivation for doing both hardcore. but if i was just natural, then i dunno about that(meaning no way in hell)

lol.

old timer you are totally lost on training and nutrition.

did you know that they drug test in the ufc?

to say it cant be done without Anabolic Androgenic Steroids (AAS) is totally ridiculous.

all of the top dogs in mma weight train.

you got the wrong name. =0)

i train brazillian jujistsu and its great. I train about 2 times a week and I weight train 3 times a week (i am on a pullin routine from pullinbig that is working very well) I agree that it is possible to do both because i am doing it and i know many guys that do it. Just make sure you eat enough that is all. The key is to make sure yuo have a surplus of cals and you should be fine. I make sure i drink a protein\carb mix durring grappling practice and that i stuff my face all the time even when iam not hungry.

And my favorite ufc fighter is a former bb, phil baroni too bad he has lost his last couple of fights. Cant wait to see Lidel and Courture go at it in April.

Eat up boys

try 4 losses in a row. he got too much mouth for me. same with tito. he cried after courture kicked his ass. now hes running his mouth again.

show some respect when you win and lose.

i love what tito did after he beat vitor. he dedicated the win to all the troops in sadi arabia. lololololol not iraq but saudi arabia. lolololol i think vitor rung his bell.

That's just Tito's style. I think he needs to shut up, especially when he was talking to Lidel who utterly embarrassed him. Anyone remember what UFC that was? Liddel vs Ortiz?

47

when he fought shamrock, shamrock had to lose about 40lbs to make weight. i wish they had fought heads up with no weight class. or tito move up. hes prolly naturally around 220 or so in training.

you know what puzzles me is that they drug test these guys. kimo failed after he got knocked out by shamrock.

sylvia failed one also a year or so ago. they get a 6 month suspension and a big fine.

i mean damn this is ufc. let the guys get juiced up and have at it. its not bad mitten.

kimo was a big block of muslce and it didnt mean sh*t when shamrock cut his knee on his tooth that was a great fight.

kimo has trimmed down from a few years back.

if he hadny had that pony tail when he fought grace he would have won that match. hell grace didnt fight anymore that night cause he was beat all to hell. kimo whooped his ass til he got ankle locked.
