Training Issue

Hi all,

What are peoples oppinions?

I have boxed for many years up until 4 years ago, since then I have become addited to moving iron plates. I'm still natural and have made good gains, currently training every other day splits i.e. day1 chest, day2 rest, day 3 shoulders, day 4 rest, day 5 legs, etc etc. I wish to start the boxing again in my off days maybe twice a week; 2 hour sessions.

So my question is: Do you think this will affect making gains, is this amount of intense cardio going to hinder making gains due to over training or will it be benificial?

be kind this is my first post!

Cheers

it will be a little harder to make gains with all that work...especially on the muscles used for boxing. though i'm curious to hear other people's opinion, cause I wouldn't mind hitting the bag myself.

From 1997 to 2002 I lifted and then joined martial arts. My gains went down substantially with the increase of exercise that included much cardio. But even with that said I still was able to maintain being stronger then most I trained with due to continuing weight lifting.

The thing is you cannot be the master of both. You can use weights to improve your boxing but you cannot use boxing to improve your lifting. Boxers, MMA guys and all types of athletes use weights to make gains in their given field, it is a science now. However if you are looking to be a body builder and be a boxer, I think you will find very few if any that will exceed in both areas at the same time.

I had these problems and realized I had to lift for martial arts and that be my focus but it is hard to lose that body building mentality. I do find as of lately I am becoming more interested in the lifting then the martial arts and perhaps one day I will return fully to this. You can be strong and solid looking and have good muscle definition but if you are going to box then you want the muscle to be functional and either you aid your boxing by lifting for it or you hinder your boxing by lifting incorrectly.

I'd say just stop your cardio in the gym and use the boxing as your weekly cardio. I'd do like you said and keep the boxing on your off days.

Thanks for the advice fella's, I think i will maybe box once a week and cut right back on the gym cardio see how it affects things.

Thanks for everyones replies!
