training tris before chest?

90% of the time when i bench i feel my tris burn and get little to no soreness in my pecs. i feel like my tris are doing all the lifting.

does it make sense to do tris first and try to force my chest to lift more on the bench? or is that stupid? id appreciate any suggestions

no, do ti's last..focus on contracting the pecs during each press

another suggestion would be to pre-exhaust....i.e. doing flyes or pec-deck first to directly work your chest then hit the bench.

Ditto! That's what I would do as well. If you work your tri's first then your reversing the theory which means your chest will get worked less because your tri's will give out even sooner. Understand??

ur probably doing it wrong if your not feeling it in your chest. How wide is your grip?

as far as i know my form is good, i've tried changing grip, wider to thinner, and going higher up on my chest and lower towards my stomach. nothing helped much. usually i keep my grip just a little wider than my shoulders, on the average 45lb bars my middle fingers are on the rings that works best but i still cant get a good chest pump

yeah that makes sense, i guess i was looking at it like if i tire out the tris then my chest does the work.
shouldn't that mean my chest is a lot stronger than my tris, but im pretty sure my tris are a lot stronger, so shouldnt my chest feel it first?

everyones body is different...for example some have wide shoulder girdles, some narrow. some have long arms, some short. the triceps are much weaker than the pecs, therefore they will almost always fail first. the width of your shoulders , length of your arms also factor into the equation. without knowing your physical traits, my first suggestion would be to pre-exhaust. trying a new technique will not hurt at all, you will probably be pleasantly surprised! supersetting benches and flies is another way to raise the intensity level of your workouts without trying to push too much weight. it's fairly obvious(to me anyways) that the tris are doing most of the work here, because you arent feeling anything in your chest......give it a try......if it doesn't work for you, find another idea....there are lots.

I used to have that problem. My solution was to work my tri's better on chest day and I added an arm day. Basically came down to my tri's being underdeveloped relative to my chest. Once they caught up it was smooth sailing from there.

do not lockout ur elbows when bench pressing for bodybuilding. If you were powerlifting the correct form is to lockout

More then likely you need to widen your grip. depending on what type of bar you use, you can make sure to keep a finger from each hand over a knurl on the bar...and as for tris, I train them with shoulder, on a completely seperate day since I train chest heavy and it takes us a while to get through it all...
