So last week I tripped while walking upstairs and cought myself on my right arm which somehow hurt my right shoulder. Today was my tri's/chest day so I was thinking my shoulder should be fine, wasn't really hurting. Well when I get on the bench and try to go for it my shoulder hurts so much I can't even get the bar off the holding thing. I went down in weight on it and did a couple sets and by that time my shoulder was hurting so bad I stopped. Any idea if this could be serious or if I should just take a break from lifting for a few days or a week or so untill it heals?

If i were u i would be very carefull...my mate hurt his shoulder and his had to stop completly and that was just from lying on it wrong while he was sleeping and did chest routine after....his been out now for like 2 months!

agreed.....there are alot of things going on in the shoulder. i would take it easy and give it a chance to rest, if the symptoms continue see a doc.

Ya I'm taking this week off and hopefully it will be fine by monday. Last thing I want as a poor college student is to end up needing surgery.

That had to suck man.

Yeah I'm pretty pissed about the shoulder thing, this is the first time in my life that I've really been seeing improvements in lifting every single week so I was excited about lifting and then I gotta take some time off because I was clumsy and tripped lol.

A very common injury. It seems i've been talking about the acromioclavicular a lot lately. Falling and landing with an extended arm is a very common way to dislocate the joint to the posterior. When you jump on a bench the weight your holding is pushing the joint in the same direction in which you most likely slightly stretched the ligaments. Give it a little time to heal up before jumping back on a bench. Shoulder stabilization exercises are good to add as well.
