Bahahahaha.

On a serious note, unless you are in your fourth set and just physically cannot control the weight down due to fatigue - you should be able to guide the weight down somewhat. Dropping the weight because it's "manly" is just silly and can damage the weight/floor/bar/feet that just happen to be in the way. Not passing judgement here, but my gym frowns on dropping weights too so I try to stay with weight I can control better. Besides, the negative range of motion in resistance training can be just as important as the positive range imo.

My .02c :)

on a serious note on heavy deadlifts the weight sometimes just "slips" out my hand due to weak hands lol

i agree when lifting for reps, but when lifting for a pr, its hard to control the weight on the way down and has to be dropped.

When you say dropped do you mean just let go at the top? Or a real fast negative with it still in your hands? If the former you should only do that with an oly bar and bumpers. A normal bar combined with metal plates is not built to withstand the sheer force of an impact like that. If you do the latter there should not be a problem as even controlling it just a bit takes a lot of force off the impact. I never drop my deads because you can't in any comp I've been too, the steel plates can damage the floor, most gym barbells at non hardcore gyms would not with stand the repeated sheer force of that. Most gyms I have seen have hex key end caps, and that hex bolt can be broken pretty easily. So I just do a "controlled" fast negative.

Ha I could never be in a gym like that. I'm always making noise and getting fired up in the gym along with the dropping wieghts some times. I get jacked up in the gym and get excited about what I'm doing. I get some pretty good stairs somtimes when I let out a loud yell wile I'm trying to get a new pr or going to failure.

If you look in my avatar that's me dead lifting 500lb on a dead lift platform! My gym is so old school I love it! Just no aircoditioning in the summer and no one puts there weights back! Lol
