Wellness programs

I was wondering if any of you out there have employers that offer a wellness program? If you do what does it do for you?
My company has set one up and you have to meet certain parameters and if you do you can get up to four free personal days.
I am on our committee that set it up and we are always looking for ways to improve it.

I worked for a courrier company a few years a go, I used to handle (claims/track of lost packages) lots of irate costumers, my company was thinking of adding a gym in the facility, as part of our Wellness Program, I ended up leaving before the gym was completed, but I thought it was a great and effective way to promote employee wellness and morale, not to say "Cut down insurance premiums, healthier employees, happier employess & lower insurance premiums, is a win win situation.

I've heard some companies do on-site yoga classes & smoking cessation programs,
I think this will become a bigger and bigger trend.

We are implementing a smoking cessation program, and we have had a few "biggest loser" type contests with pretty good results. It is tough in this economy to talk the boss into putting a gym onsite. We probably could fit it somewhere but I think they are afraid that I would be the only one using it after 2 months.

Since I am getting NASM certified I was thinking about talking my bosses into such a program ;)

Sure we could work something out lol. We just became part of a company that is 156 on the fortune 500, we should now have the abilities to pull such a thing off.

Fishing is my personal wellness program.
Seems simple..but it's very relaxing.

Nothing is more peacful to me than the great outdoors:)

Anyone else?? Our company is fairly small around 100 employees so for us the biggest challenge is trying to get everyone to participate. We have it set as a voluntary program for now but if insurance premiums keep skyrocketing we may have to make it mandatory. I am open to new ideas to take to the committee.

Lowering the Insurance cost for those who participate, give rewards for reaching goals that are set for an individual that would help them live better(overweight =lose so many LBs, etc) such as an extra vacation day or something.

Insurance premiums are only going to get worse no matter what my friend. Until a group of people make a new company that is not about $$$ but about undercutting all the other ones and actually helping your clients.

Our goal is to ultimately have a healthier workforce, and save us all money on premiums in the long run. The company has put up the four days pay which is a big investment to those who qualify. Unfortunately we have a bunch of people that are either stubborn or lazy, or maybe they just don't have any willpower at all. We are offering all the tools we can to help them and they still can't be bothered.
I know that insurance premiums aren't coming down any time soon but you would think that a company that is promoting "wellness" and a healthy lifestyle would catch a break.

Hmmm....there are ways, but I honestly do no believe enough people have any will left in them to push for such changes. The only real option outside of owning a fitness business to keep them in a program like that is to make it mandatory lol. Which probably is not legal. Well I know it isnt...unless you get them all classified as models XD
